ok guys i have a problem with my router thats sending signal to my laptop which from router to laptop is no more than 30 metres away and i always get 54mbps in signal max strengh all the time.
Right the problem is when somebody comes through the front door which is where the router is located i lose signal, i mean all signal then comes back about 2 mins later.

1. checked to make sure no lose connection

but its persistent, i mean am i or members of my family got some kind of super powers to be able to interfere with these signals?

any super duper brains out there willing to share their technical knowledge.

yes i use sky broadband and use their crappy router angry.gif

is it possible to try moving the router to another location?
otherwise i cant seem to think of a reason as to why it does that, its not like the person walking in is carrying a big sheet of metal tongue.gif

nope cant move it, thats the problem, and nope no metal.

literally when someone walks in im knocked off. mad.gif

i remember seeing top gear with jeremy clarkson, he had a range rover and a remote for the alarm and central locking, he stood about 10 metres away from the range rover and clicked and the lights came on.
Stood back 30 metres and clicked away and no lights came on, until he stuck the remote to his head and clicked and the lights came on.

What im trying to say is that somewhere our bodies even our brain frequencies are interferring with us or we are interfering with them.

Do you use linksys? Therers and option that allows you to basically stop broadcasting a signal, but the wireless is still on so you'd pick up a connection (low one). It happend to my old roomate, after I tweaked around a bit and didn't notice what I had done.

That router sounds really dodgy man. It shouldn't be cutting out just becuse someone walked through the line of sight. Is there anyway you can buy yourself a new one? You can get a good D-LINK for reasonable prices these days.

Or maybe borrow someone elses's router first, just to rule out strange architecture problems causing the issue when combined with someone walking through the door.

Cheers

I have a draytek router but cant use it as im with sky broadband and guess what they wont send me the details for me to use my own router. i cant actually find a lose connection though, ive tweeked and twiddled no signs of anything. its just one of those weird mysteries.

when i did have my router the draytek one up and running it was fine.

Thanks for the responses

some routers allow the use of different channels 1-11 if you live in a urban aria where other routers may be it is possible the connection is being weekend by interference from other routers on the same channel as youres.

try to go in and change the channel keep trying different ones and see if the problem stops.

I'd say it's either a problem with your craptastic router (haven't heard of the brand) or there's a metal sheet inside the door (which isn't uncommon in newer places.)

Just because sky broadband won't tell you how to set up the router doesn't mean you can't use one. I'd recommend netgear or d-link routers. Linksys are cheap, but horribly easy to manipulate.

If you get one, I'll walk you through setting it up. Just email me or post a reply on here. Now that I see that UM has a computer solving area, I'll gladly lend in my expertise. (Computer networking is my job).

But for starters if you go into your router's configuration, there's usually a setting to boost signal output. Might wanna try that. Same with your laptop's wireless config.
