If I were the government, perhaps it would be smart to work on something to defend us against an advanced Alien race?
How would we know what weapons to build? Again, taking my Body Snatchers example, how exactly would any space defence program help us in that case? Why would they attack directly if they may have the capability to take us out without any fight at all?

Our technology advances pretty fast, and gets very compact these days such as fiber optics etc; I mean, look... we are so close to perfecting cloning. We are creating fast and smart artificial intelligence. Where are we getting these ideas from?
Humans aren't stupid. Are you also suggesting that aliens helped us with the industrial revolution? Or how to make fire, the first wheel, swords? These have all developed by figuring out things, observing nature and experimenting. None if it is easy, but as we go, and thanks to what we've learned before, things naturally proceed faster. No longer have we any dogma towards science, and no longer are there any official "banned" scientific areas.

If we are so smart, how come we have not discovered the cure for most of the diseases that are out there by now?
That isn't as easy as it sounds. A disease also evolves, such as AIDS, developing resistance. Cancer is hard to eliminate, as of now, because we have yet to develop a technique to detect what cells are affected. We must also develop techniques to remove tumours that are placed in difficult places, such as around the brain, heart, lungs etc. Hopefully, nanotechnology will help us in that respect.

( Hence Africa's health problems )
Africa's health problems often depend on the state of things, such as poverty. People simply do not have enough money to buy medicine for even the simple fever, malaria can be prevented with mosquito nets, again, if they had the money to buy it. After all, disease can not cripple a state, and if it could, Africa would be off-limits to everyone.
