Honestly, it's hard to find an unbiased comparison of the two new cards (Nvidia Geforce 8800 and ATI Radeon 2900). I'm eventually going to build a computer, but I want to know what would be best the video card for my system. Are the two cards basically the same? What can I get the most of out of each one? What are your opinions?

I have a 7900 GTX and I've been satisfied
Nvidia goes out of there way to most high profile game studios to make sure their cards work with the game being made thats why you see nvidia screens on most new pc games. But then again Nvidia are poor when it comes to updating drivers for new games the latest driver is still in a beta but I have not encountered any problems for full retail game but some demos I've played recently since the beta driver has been buggy.
also go with an Intel processor I just have seen some bad experiences with gaming pc rigs with AMD processors.

I've always used AMD chips and ATI cards and would highly reccommend both. Now that AMD and ATI have merged, you would think that compatibality and peformance when using the two together would be pretty good.
You'll have to do some searching to find out if one of the cards will be better for what you want/what components you're going to use with it.
Just go to google and put in "Card1 Card2 review"
Look at a bunch of reviews comparing the two cards, check out some peformance graphs and make a decision on what you've read, and of course, post in here if you have narrowed it down to 2 or 3 and see what people think.

NVIDIA + AMD all the way.
Intel is good for data processing but AMD is good for multi-tasking/processing. Both are great, but just depends what type of stuff you do with your pc.
