As I sit here and watch the Diamondbacks lose game one, I started pondering a pretty important question. I have been investigating for quite some time, but I never really studied the origin of Ghost Hunting, or even anything associated with ghosts/spirits. So where did all this begin? Who is the father or mother of Ghost Hunting or whatever it is we do? I mean I have done research on different aspects involving our field but I wonder how far back this really goes.

Everyones knowledge is different and I think it would be a good idea to get everyones thoughts on this matter.

Sorry if this thread already exists somewhere...

Read the old Testament. As far I can think back is Jesus and Shakespeare's Hamlet, Prince of Denmark. dontgetit.gif

Thats an nteresting question .Belief in ghosts is traced back to as far back as 3500 B.C. in early Egyptian manuscripts which speak about spirits and out-of-body experiences

I do know that spritualism was brought back to the fore due to the hydesville rapping case in 1848 involving the fox sisters but other than that im not sure but you got me intrigued now so im going ghost fact hunting LOL

I asked myself this very same thing and this is the earliest thing I could find. This letter is a translation of one written by Pliny the Younger. He was a Roman and watched Mt Vesuvius(the volcano that killed the people of Pompeii) erupt, which by the way killed his uncle, Pliny the Elder. Nope it's not a joke. grin2.gif

Anyway here is a link to the English translation of his letter that tells a ghost story and his investigation into it. It's kinda long, sorry.

well the bible is pretty much a paranormal account to an extent, you have your miracles, people rising from the dead, the holy spirit, a burning bush, angles, demons, possessions. and that was written quite a long time ago.

Man has been fascinated with the beyond, even before he became man. I suppose the moon was most likely the subject of the most curiosity, probably even before neanderthals. Serious exploration into the unknown probably began with early Egyptians, but that is purely speculation. The Chinese have a very early lease on life as well. But just adding my .02 cents to the thread, I'd like to identify the MOON as the subject for the first paranormal investigators or the curious.

By the way, Blue Guardian....that's 20 cents in your signature, not 2. original.gif ~Jackal

Sumerian texts talk about spirits entering cities and massacring the inhabitants.
