Im surprised that no one made a thread on this already.
I was at my friends house, and he has portal. I have to say that it is probabally the best game ever I've ever played. Its not too hard, its not too easy. Its just such an original idea, a First Person Puzzle. It could be the start of a new genre. Anyway, the games just ace, the puzzles arent like the puzles from a normal puzzle game, if you see what I mean, they work in more complicated ways and require lateral thinking. The only let down I think is the fact its too short, in the 5 or so hours I was there, I managed to complete the game, and play up to the eighth level with commentary on. The song at the end of the credits is prehaps the best song ive heard. Its just amazing, I would highly reccomend it to anyone. I'd give it a 8.9/10, because its so short, and the plots abit strange.

Isn't that a mini-game that comes with the Half Life Orange Box?

Does it have a plot or is it just a minigame?

Portal is a new single player game from Valve. The game is designed to change the way players approach, manipulate, and surmise the possibilities in a given environment: players must solve physical puzzles and challenges by opening portals to maneuvering objects, and themselves, through space.
SourceI'm pretty sure it's a mini-game especially since it's pretty short.

I LOVED playing through this game. It is short, but it does have a small plot, but it really only comes into play at the end of the game. The puzzle designs are ingenious. It's also really fun just to play around with the portals. It's definately one of the most hilarious games ever made, too. The dialogue that the robot lady has gets consistantly funnier as the game progresses. Portal also has the best end-credits song ever written.
Everyone should buy The Orange Box. Best video game deal around. I've been playing it constantly since i got it.

Its not a minigame, you can buy it seperate from the orange box. But it is short. The way the game is made is just so good. Like when you knock over turrets they say "im not angry at you" or "i forgive you". The game makes you pity the AI. But ye, its really short.

Sounds pretty lame to me. I hate any kind of puzzle game, it's downright boring for me. However, we all have different tastes, so if it's fun for you that's cool.

I'm not so sure about that. I can't seem to find it being sold separately.

You should probably give it a try before you judge it. I don't normall play any puzzle games either, but this one is just so damn fun. Trust me...it's anything but lame.

You can buy it seperately and download it through Steam. Its not that much more to just buy the Orange Box though.

Portal is set in the half life universe, correct? well...on half life episode 2, towards the end (and prehaps the build up to episode 3) you see a beached ship which is aprantally from Apeture Science. According to Dr. Kliner, it should be saved because it has some importance, but according Eli Vance, it should be destroyed. So I assume that some events in Portal (either before, during or after) will somehow tie into the half life story.
