ok ive posted on this topic a longggggg time ago. the more i watch it with people the crapier it gets.. explain the whole thing to me, someone..

so she dies in the first 5 min of the movie. and its about her saving the lives of dead people? everyone who was in silent hill was dead so who really cares if she helps them or not?

also, if the daughter who was burned and was in the bed at the end, it was said by the little girl that they keep her down there in hiding. If she repersents all evil why do they have her in hiding?

why did they need the main character to bring the evil into the church, if she came through the ceiling of the floor? as well, as when the twin went into the main character she was allowed to go into the church? what just because she was inside her she was allowed to enter but she couldn't before?

i mean there is alot of stupid stuff in this movie. maybe if i get a better understanding i will enjoy it.

maybe someone can gimme a detailed expample of the movie.

Basically, and I've got this from reading up on it, Rose doesn't die, she is just knocked unconcious by the crash and she awakens in a kind of parrallel reality which is the personification of Alessa's nightmares. Rose shifts between these realities and is led or lured by Alessa into finding her. Alessa was burned for her sin (ie no father) and so her 'darkness' took over and Sharon is her innocence set free. Rose helped Alessa get her revenge by taking her into the church and when she leaves she is still in the parrallel dimension, so when you see her get home, everything is still ash grey to her. She occupies the same space as her husband but not the same reality.

Quote from writer Roger Avary:
QUOTE
The base idea was that this is not a haunted house, it's a haunted town, y'know, separate from our reality, but it also exists within our reality. So you effectively become a ghost during your time there. And it's a very terrifying emotion, that you are a ghost of yourself. Frankly I think it's a theme that's followed me.

Silent Hill is based ON psychological thingies...
See: In SH2, (which is apparentley a classic game now) James saw monsters, but Laura wasnt scared, why? Because she saw ordinary people, so, which reality is true? Was James killing people? Or Monsters? Rose could've died, and just went to 'hell' or she could've lived...Anyway...They have a sequel in the works

No, she doesn't die. Silent Hill (the town) has three "layers" of existence: the normal layer, the foggy in between-layer and the nightmarish layer. Rose ends up in the foggy layer (I don't really know how, as it's never stated in the games how people are transferred between the layers). I don't think the peoples of Silent Hill were dead either, but they were stuck in the foggy layer, a sort of limbo, if you like. I'm not sure about why they hid Alessa in the movie (the plot was, at times, convoluted and made little sense), but my guess would be that they wanted to supress her "evil" powers, so that they could not affect the town or its inhabitants.

As for why they needed Rose to bring the evil into the church, I'm not sure. I seem to remember Alessa mentioning that she couldn't enter the church by herself, so she had to "hide" inside Rose to be able to enter the church. Why she needed to enter the church to extract her revenge, I have no idea about.

Anyway, you shouldn't put too much emphasis on the movie plot, as it's basically just a poorly rehashed version of the Silent Hill 1 plot, with Pyramid Head from Silent Hill 2 thrown in (God knows why they included Pyramid Head, as he's the manifestation of James' feelings of guilt and a need to be punished, not some stock demon that prowls the streets of Silent Hill at night).
