I know that Dopplegangers are supposed to be someone's double and, from what I can tell, are supposed to be a bad thing. Is this true? What about seeing a "double" but nothing bad happens? I have 3 stories of this happening.
!. The first I had ever heard of this was when I was about 4 or 5 and my Daddy came home furious with my Mom. He was a fireman and he said that she (my mom) and my aunt had been all over the police scanners, causing trouble and evading the police. They had described the cars they were driving and even had the license plates of my mom's and aunt's cars. Problem was, they had both been at our house all day, planning a party for my Grandmother's birthday. Neither of them had left the house and their cars were in the drive way.
2. I was 11 this time and staying with my aunt (same one as in the previous story. you will see her referred to alot. We are almost always together when things happen). Her children were very young and I was helping her with them in the house. Her eldest son was about 4 and he was standing at the window and called out "Daddy!" and ran to the door. His Daddy was at work and not due to be home for another 5 or 6 hours and my aunt tried to explain this to her son. I happened to look out the door and I also saw him. My aunt went outside to talk to him, thinking maybe something was wrong. Her "husband" walked right by us and into the house. We looked at each other like "what on earth??" because he wouldn't answer or talk to any of us. We followed him, my aunt still trying to get an answer from him. He went straight through to the bathroom and closed the door. For 5 minutes my aunt talked through the door, asking if he was ok, etc, but never got an answer. She tried the knob and it turned so she opened the door and went into the bathroom... but no one was there. There was only the one door to this bathroom and no windows at all. Of course, we're freaking out (and by "we" I mean ME). My aunt called his work and found out that he was still there. She talked to him and he assured her that all was well. So who was it?
3. This was only a few months ago (no need to go into the age thing) and my kids and I were sitting at home with my teenage cousin and her friend eating pizza and just being silly. It was late, about 10pm, and Dwayne (my boyfriend) had went on an all night fishing trip with his dad and uncle. As we sat at the table I heard the back door slide open. We live in a neighborhood where everybody keeps an eye on everyone else and we feel safe enough to keep our doors unlocked. I went into the back room and looked around but there was no one there. I went through and looked everywhere, just in case, and there was no one, so I simply locked the door and came back to the kitchen, thinking it was my imagination. A few minutes later I heard it open again and this time there was footsteps and the bathroom water came on. Thinking it was Dwayne back early, I called to him... and he answered! I heard his footsteps coming down the hall. With all of us talking and eating, it was a few minutes before I realized that he wsn't there with us. I went through the house and didn't find him and looked outside and his truck wasn't out there so I called him and asked him where he went and he said he was still at the camp site.... 3 counties away. Of course, I didn't believe him. I thought he was trying to creep us out (it was working) but I talked to his dad (whom I'd believe no matter what) and he said that, yes, they were there and Dwayne hadn't left at all.

Hmmm...quite interesting...I have to tell you although that dopplegangers are not always mean and appearing for bad purpose...From what I know - and heard - some people can actually hear voices from persons that are "close" to them...For example a kid hearing his mother voice, that tries to tell him not to do something...Or some people that are invited by friends to go for some drinks, and hear a voice saying "dont go there" , and later the same night his friends are having a car crash e.t.c. Those things happen to many people...although I believe that these situations are very difficult to explain (If the person says them is normal...no drugs, drunk or anything else we cant possibly know....Not saying that for you however!!!!

) I dont believe what I say counts exactly for a doppleganger...but its a type of I think......

Do you know what a "Fetch" is?
A Fetch is usually the apparition of someone you know or someone close to you. Most often you will see them and try to have a conversation with them. They will simply ignore you and walk away and you will not be able to find them as soon as they are out of sight since they disappear.
The reason a Fetch appears is a sign of impending death. It means that the person the apparition represented is most likely to die very soon.
A fetch is similar to the way haunted ghost ships appear to let you know that your death is coming soon.
But I do not think what you saw is a fetch since the people you know who got "doppleganged" have not died.

That makes sense Indrid. But like you said, No one has died, I've never done drugs (although with my two kids I probably should.. lol) and, as G.O.W mentioned, I was able to interact. So, does anyone have any suggestions as to what I should do if this were to happen again?

Its funny that I started topic when I did. Today a co-worker asked me if I was mad at him and when I said no he said "well then, why didn't you wave at me while you were in Pikeville?" I wasn't in Pikeville. I told him that there are 4 or 5 lime green beetles in this area so it must have been someone else and he said "not one with a sign that reads 'Lori's Bug' in the back window." Apparently, when he saw "my" car he honked and I didn't take any notice of him. "I" stopped at a redlight and he pulled up right beside me and honked again and he said I turned around and looked at him (he even made reference to my "big goofy shades" that he always laughs at) and even gave him and weird little grin and then turned back around. He thought it was really weird that I didn't even return his wave so he thought I was angry with him. I think he still believes that I'm not telling him the truth. I was at my Mom's in an entirely different county in the other direction when this happened. I offered to give him my mom's number to verify but he said he believes me. I think he thinks I was up to no good.. lol.

nice accounts, they are quite disturbing, what if, an altenate reality somehow becomes visible to us and we are able to see the person but it only goes one way, i have no idea, but that wouldnt make sense with the voices and stuff, i say get it on film, but keep your guard up.

I don't know if this was a Doppelganger or what, but this happened shortly after the person died.
I was brought up watching scary movies and believing in ghosts and the such. My dad often watched scary movies with me and my younger brother before we went to sleep, so of course we insisted on sleeping together in my parents big bedroom, until my dad would move us back to our beds after we had fallen asleep. Well, this one particular night when I was about 11 years old, I had fallen asleep with my dad in my room. I woke up at about 3:00 a.m. and saw that my dad wasn't there. Through my opened bedroom door I could see that all of the lights in the living room were turned on, so I got out of bed and walked out there. My dad was sitting on the couch grasping a bible and watching some Evangelical program on TV. This was really strange for me to see him like that since he never was a very religious person. I asked him what he was doing and he told me to sit down, so I did, and asked him what as wrong. He told me he had woken up to a woman whispering his name, and then he heard footsteps in the hallway, coming toward my room. My door was open, and he said he saw his mother standing there calling his name and telling him everything was ok. This scared me because my grandmother had passed away a few days earlier, so I stayed up with him the rest of the night watching preachers until he had to go to work. After that night, my dad delved more into religion, which I always thought was weird. Since my grandmother had passed away, this would be more of a ghost story than a Doppelganger, but I thought of this incident when reading this thread. It was like my dad wasn't the same person after that. What makes me nervous is the pattern of death my family has seen lately. My aunt, his sister, died a few years after thier mother did, and my dad followed three years ago, a few days before my 16th birthday.

Oh goodness! Creepy stories, guys!
I have a similar story to this. I was probably about 14 (I'm 20 now, so this would have been about 6 years ago.), I was spending the night at my grandparents old house next door. (They've since moved.) It was a very old house, and always had a history of paranormal occurances. Me and my aunt Connie had stayed up real late watching a movie, and it was about 3 AM when we were finally getting to bed. They had a big couch in the living room, and I would sleep on one end of it, while she would sleep on the other. Well, we were on either end of the couch talking, when all of the sudden we saw Grandma walking up the stairs. She was wearing her Summer nightgown (It was Winter.), and her hair was not in it's usual curlers, (She always sleeps in her curlers.) which was very odd. We greeted her, but she completely ignored us and walked into the kitchen. The next thing we *both* remember is waking up the next morning. I thought it was a dream, because the memory felt SO fuzzy, and I asked Connie if Grandma had come upstairs last night, and she said, "Yeah!".
Well long story short, we asked grandma that day if she had come upstairs at all during the night, and she denied that she ever had! Definitely an odd event.

And yes, Grandma's okay and doing fine!

This reminded me of the time one of my maids told me she saw my grandfather walking in the kitchen and then he dissapeared. Then she said that that meant he was going to die soon, becasue she says that shortly before somene dies, his/her soul leaves the body and walks around doing what that person used to do before. This happened like at least 7 years ago....fortunately, my grandfather is still alive! but i have to say i was scared, because like a year before i had seen both my dad and my mom, on different occasions, in different parts of the house when they weren't there.
