Can anyone explain why all the threads in the list are showing with the lighter gray icon, indicating that I have read them.... when I haven't?

Have you always had this problem or is just today ? If you go away from the site for five minutes and come back have the posts made during your absense also been marked as read ?

i am having the same problem, started yesterday and then today. The little drop down arrows that take me to the last unread post are all missing, indicating i have read them. I havent.

Ok it looks as though this is a known issue in the current Invision Board release which was updated on here yesterday.

Fortunately a patch fix has become available and this has now been implemented as of this morning.

Any members who are experiencing the above mentioned problem are advised to click mark all posts as read in order to reset all the current topic and post read markers. Once this has been done the markers should begin to work again as normal.

Let me know if you continue to experience problems with this.
