An elderly woman had a lucky escape after a crystal ball set alight to curtains in her lounge, a fire service has said.

The woman, aged in her 60s, returned, to her home in Dorset, to find the property full of smoke and the curtains on fire.

Fire crews attended and put out the blaze and an investigation showed that a crystal ball placed on a window sill had refracted sunlight on to the curtains, causing the fire.
