I'd just like to say duh.

the wii is a joke of a system. it's just like any other nintendo product out there: games made by 4th graders for 35 year old single white males.
Daxter King
Pretty much the only game that is hardcore to me at this point is MP3. Its library has far too many party games.
AztecInca
Well one opinion by a game developer, and two members one of which is unable to use correct spelling or grammar agree, I`m convinced. thumbsup.gif There is no denying due to the hardware capabilities of the three consoles and previous content on earlier consoles that the PS3 and 360 have a larger array of hardcore games, however the Wii has a number of already existing 'Hardcore' games as well as numerous future 'hardcore' games coming out. Anyway the definition of 'hardcore' varies between different gamers. One of the key reasons though that I plan on getting at least one more console to go with my Wii, is because certain 'hardcore' game cannot be produced in that console, due to hardware limitations, there are and will be hardcore games on the Wii, however it will also have significant amounts of casual and 'party' games, as they work well on the Wii.

This thread is nothing more than blatant flame-baiting, should members be unable to post with civility and without the use of personal attacks and offensive language, I will not hesitate to close the thread.

I have to disagree on it being a joke, but it's not for the gamer who takes games seriously.... at all. Yet it's selling out fairly fast, I have a Wii, at first I played it and loved it... then got bored after a while, the Wii is a gimmick, and apparently most Wii buyers don't even use their Wii all that much anyway.
tnr
I have to say, the wii is probably the coolest thing since....the last cool thing. tongue.gif

But seriosly, that is his opinion, it differs from my personal opinion, but it is still his words.
Cadetak
How does one define 'hardcore'?

A good game is a good game.

The Wii will copy the success of the DS.

oh yeah because video games are solely based on how many units you sell and not the quality of the game itself. rolleyes.gif but you have the right idea. it is a gimmick. they just can't seem to make good, engaging games so they go for the "use your wii stick for bowling, or tennis, or god forbid baseball". wow loads of fun.

"Sigh" Your opinion is not fact, you obviously have a bias against Nintendo products and although its not justified its your right. However merely because you do not like a particular gaming company or game, that does not make it bad, its simply not your preferred gaming console or product. Each console has its own pro's and con's and all warrant a purchase. thumbsup.gif

yeah its not hardcore but i wouldnt let myself get to the "halo" crowd type of gammer so i dont care...I have an old PSM (playstation magazine) where they quote konomi praising nintendo for making games easy for people to just pick up and play and not have to read the manual... ill scan the article...

Just wait till Super Mario Galaxy among other games come out... There are some good games already on Wii for example the new Zelda game was pretty sweet.
InHuman
Its third parties that are ruining the Wii. Instead of giving us good games they keep pushing ports and party games with gimmicky controls that dont make full use of the Wii. THey are in it for the quick but they can use to focus on XBOX and PS3 projects...I want the nitnendo seal (obviously a watered down version) back.

Again, that's just your opinion. It can easily be argued that the new motion-sensing control scheme is innovative and that it pushes the boundaries of gaming. Sadly though a number of third-party deveopers as Inhuman noted are releasing low-quality games, many of which are ports that barely use the Wii-mote at all. However Nintendo and a few of these third-party developers are producing high-quality games that utilise the Wii and its unique features. Luckily though for us gamers, many of those low-quality titles aren`t selling particularly well while the high-level games are. This should put pressure on these third-party developers to produce superior products.

Future and recently relased titles that can be classified as high-quality games include, Metroid Prime 3, Super Mario Galaxy, Brawl, Guitar Hero 3, Battalion Wars II, Zack & Wiki, Resident Evil:Umbrella Chronicles, Naruto, Medal of Honour: Heroe's 2, Okami, Manhunt 2, Montsre Hunter 3, Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, WWE: Smackdown v Raw 2007, Trauma Centre: New Blood, Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30, Nights, Civilization: Revolution, Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Crystal Bearers, Disaster: Day of Crisis, Mario Kart, Prince of Persia 4 and many more. Buy these and and support the developers who are making an effort on the Wii, force the rest of the competition to step up their game. thumbsup.gif

And yet it already sold more units than the XBox360 which came out one year before it and the PS3, your response is the tipical one of someone who puts graphics over fun, if I want graphics I'll go outside and play with my dog, that will be pretty real to me ^^'
But yeah, the Wii sucks so much that it already sold more than the others which means there are a lot of single white males (btw, that was a bit racist, why can't black people play?), someone make more single white females please!

The Wii is not hardcore and it's not for hardcore players, it's a cheap and accessible gaming system that puts fun over graphics, in a world where there are more non-gamers than gamers this might just be the console we need to get more people into gaming (which is a good thing, since before the Wii my grandpa would be like "I don't see why you like that thing so much" and now he plays it too, lol).

Finally, I must add that not everyone is willing to waste their salary on a console and not eat for a whole month (PS3) or almost a month (XBox360) *cough*

I'm not saying the Wii is better in terms of graphics than those consoles, but only the idiots do not understand that graphics are not the only thing that determines how good a game is, and that fun can totally own graphics (look at PopCap games, they look stupid yet they sell like bunnies mate).

this is the internet, so please spare me the political correctness crap. you are going to interpret what i say however you want and try find some "deeper", hidden meaning when there isn't one. racist, i am not and never will be. i abhor your statement because you do not know me as i do not know you. so i would greatly appreciate it if you would stop trying to character-assassinate me. thank you.

for those of you who think wii is kiddie or not hardcore you should play godfather blackhand edition... one of the best wii games out there.

rough up business owners, use the wii mote and nunchucku as your fist... yeah i guess thats kinda kiddie blink.gif

how can you not say its not hardcore haha

you have to do more work with that console than any other console out there!

ive completed Pirates of the Carribean on it laugh.gif

and i like the bowling on wii sports its a laugh

i think it an all around good console
Carcharoth
In a way, he's right. Wii isn't made for, nor marketed towards, the hardcore gaming crowd. It's meant to be the Nintendo equivalent of what the PS2 became in its later years: an all-round gaming machine that appealed to both teenage girls who wanted to sing karaoke to popular songs in Singstar and guys in their 20s or 30s who wanted blood, guts and gore delivered by the rather brutal God of War. But the problem, as I see it, is that the Wii currently has few third party games that are pushing consoles. Its library consists, to a large degree, of party games, ports with waggling controls slapped on and Nintendos own franchises. And when Super Mario Galaxy and Super Smash Bros. Brawl are out, what are Nintendo going to do then? They've used all their big franchises, and I don't think they can expect games like WiiSport and WiiGolf to keep the momentum up forever.
(Moonlight)
Nintendo was always on top until they released the gamecube. Plus lately Nintendo stuff is WAAAY expensive. The Wii is $400AU and a good game like Zelda is $100AU! Then again, the PS3 would stop me eating for around a year, at $900AU to $1000AU!!! Man, I'm not going to get that new Ratchet and Clank game... More to the point, the PS2 gave us $30AU games! Pretty much anyone can afford them. Unfortunately, no matter how much I want one for Chrissy, tooooooooooooo expensive...

Not really. Nintendo has always been a very strong brand in the US and Japan, but Segas Master System actually sligthly outsold the NES in Europe, and Segas Mega Drive (or Genesis, if you want) also outsold the SNES in Europe. And when the N64 arrived, that's when Nintendos decline began. They had weak third-party support, an outdated storage medium and expensive games. The PS1, at the end of its run, had sold something like 103 million consoles compared to the ca. 33 million of Nintendo 64 (in fact, the PS1 alone outsold the N64 and Gamecube combined). It's not until now Nintendo has managed to get back to where they were during their prime with the NES and the SNES, and even then the PS3 seems to be outselling the Wii in Europe (estimated sales of Wii: 1.236.198 vs PS3: 1.665.035, numbers taken from http://vgchartz.com/eweekly.php) , but then again, Europe has been Sonyland pretty much since the PS1 hit stores here, so it's not surprising that the PlayStation brand sells a lot here.

Incorrect. The Wii has sold 1,336,356 in the UK alone, compared with 429,926 for the PS3. In France the Wii has achieve sales of 1,001,788 compared to sales of 231,899 for the PS3. In Germany the Wii has sales of 394,613 compared to 156,205 for the PS3. In Scandanivia the Wii has achieved sales of 182,550 compared to the PS3's 105,955.The two significant regions within Europe that the PS3 has outsold the Wii is Spain and Itay. In Spain the PS3 has so far achieved sales of 324,268 compared with the Wii's 301, 803. In Italy the PS3 has sales of 189,636 comapred to the Wii's 149,233. Also when the remaining smaller European nation's hardware sales are combined the PS3 has sales of 227,146 compared to the Wii's 206,307. So as you can see the Wii is easily ahead of the PS3 in Europe. I would always advise closely examining any statistical data you have before posting.

Aye. It did seem strange that the PS3 had outsold the Wii laugh.gif What I did was basically just taking the Wii sales and put them together, and the same for the PS3. Mathematics was never one of my fave subjects laugh.gif I checked the numbers again, and you are right. I stand corrected. The Wii has 3 million+ sales in Europe, whereas the PS3 is closing in on 2 million units sold.

Mario Galaxy was such as great rental, I would buy it but im low on funds atm.

Okay every..BUY No More Heroes..please...even if you dont have a nintendo...this game needs to be killer if we want third party to take the wii seriously, its such a great game, new, fresh, hardcore at its fullest.

Its having a rough start in japan, NOA, and the europeans have to pick up the slack...

Oh and everyone is going to eat their words when either Time Splitters 4 or a new multiplayer FPS by retro comes out.

I have all three formats going, i find the xbox360 gives the best game play (for me) the ps3, gives a better image representation (in my opinion) and the wii is the best family orientated games machine (in my opinion).
Overall i rate the wii as the best all rounder, at present anyway, the ps3 is a lot of money and with games being as expensive it makes it a challenge to own one to a lot of people. The xbox 360 does have a great range of games but these to are over priced, and having three different versions to choose from does make buying one a real head scratcher and will create a snobbery around ownership.
The wii is reasonably priced and yes the graphics are a little bit kiddish, but hey thats what it's intended to be, a good family get together, plus they give a great work out, the other two consels just keep you on the edge of your chair.
in my opinion rolleyes.gif

The Wii isn't hardcore. It's not designed to cater to hardcore gamers. it's designed to cater to everyone.

Personally, I own an Xbox 360 and I love it. But I don't feel a need to bash Nintendo. The Wii is a great product and is perfect for it's target audience. (and fun).

^apple do not forget that name-calling and flame-baiting is unacceptable on this forum and such behaviour will be dealt with quickly and effectively. This thread and your posts will be monitored. If you believe your definition of a gamer is the only correct one then you have an incorrect and overly inflated opinion of yourself. Accept that your views are not always right and that others can believe what they like. If you don`t believe the Wii is hardcore then thats fine as its your right however that doesn`t make you right.

What's wrong with the wii? It allows a new dimension to game play and yes there are good games for the machine now... If people like you actually played the machine you would know this.

chaoszerg
I would say that Mario and sonic at the Olympics is pretty good at giving you a good workout even more so when combined with Wii sports. I have to agree with AthiestGod some good games have now started to come out for it.

I like the Wii. It is on the top of my list for Christmas with Super Mario Galaxy. It's problem is it's being marketed to a whole new audience and has way too many party games. I think if you give it time, it will come up with better games. When Brawl comes out in February, it will most definitely grab the attention of former Nintendo fans. thumbsup.gif

The hardcore gamer does not get laid, no matter the situation. The hardcore gamer does not leave his computer or console even for the bare essentials for survival. He has those provided for him by an external source(his mom). Without this souce, the hardcore gamer dies and is no more. Even if the hardcore gamer need not even move, sexual activity may distract him from his much larger goals of cyber superiority. Hence, he does not engage in it.

I am a Nintendo fan mainly. Loved Gameboy, Snes, N64, DS. I do not own a Wii yet, but I know of a few games of interest for me. Smash Bros Brawl, Pokemon Battle Revolution, Zelda Twilight Princess and Metroid, Paper Maro. However, there are not enough games for it that hold my interest. A lot are "party" type games, which I do not mind, but do not interest me as such. However I understand that Nintendo with the Wii have some interesting hardware, which they wish to test and make use of. I am sure in future, it will become less "gimmick", and they will work on some more solid games. So I am ok with Nintendo.

I also like playing Xbox 360 games, and playstation ones. Me and my friend share consoles.

I like Nintendo. I still have my old N64 and I still play with it. Right now I'm replaying Duke Nukem: Zero Hour on it.

The Wii looks cool, but I'm not fond of the Wii remote. Even if I want a Wii, you can hardly get one in the stores right now, heck you couldn't get one all year as they are always sold out.

In August (when I got mine) and September it was fairly easy to find a Wii in most stores. They had finally gotten their production to meet demand, for a short time anyway. Shortly after that demand increased again as Christmastime came closer and they are hard to find again. Still not impossible though. One can either ask the store when they expect their next shipment and show up then or watch the ads on Sunday and go out early perhaps waiting a few hours before the store opened. Another possibility was Gamestop was giving rainchecks a few days ago to get one by the end of next month. You wouldn't have one at Christmas but you were guaranteed to have one in a month. Not impossible but not easy. Failing all of that, there is still ebay but you'll pay a premium there. As soon as Christmas passes though you'll be able to find them again.

^Well down under the Wii is completly sold out and we wont be getting any more shipments until 2008, it has sold another 100,000 units in the last month which I believe is a record for any single home console in Australia. It has now sold 300,000 in just over a year which is definately a record in Australia. The other two console are also selling very well, however the PS3 is now quite outselling the 360.

In all honesty...a lot of people do things for fun. Read. Sky dive. Eat. People take hobbies seriously, even if it is a means of fun.
