New X360 Console Bundle
POSTED 24 October 2007

Microsoft have buckled and decided to punch out a new console bundle to sway those who might buy a Wii over the X360 - namely by adding a bunch of Xbox Live Arcade games to a Core system box, cutting the cord on the controller and a 256Mb memory card to store the games.

The Xbox 360 Arcade console will ship for $399.95 which is really rather good value and represents a saving of about $130 off RRP. Even after the pushing and shoving at major retailers, it's till probably an easy hundred bucks off. The games are UNO and Pac-Man: Championship Edition.

There's also some additions to the Pro console, but thankfully not to the price. The Pro bundle comes with two games (Forza Motorsport 2 and Viva Pinata), wireless controller (natch) and a saving of around $170, the RRP weighing in at $579.95.

Microsoft tell us it's for the festive season, but it looks more like it's for Christmas to us (thanks very much, I'm here all week, don't forget to tip your waitress)(sorry, we hate self-consciously inclusive Americanisms here).

Many will say this pricing is in response to the PS3 price-cut but the reality is this was probably worked out some time ago. Be that as it may (and considering PS3's sudden popularity), we'll welcome a price-cut on anything as well as added value in the form of free gear. We reckon the Arcade console, in one form or another, will replace the Core console forever in the next six or twelve months. Here's hoping.

Very decent savings indeed, my decision between a 360 and PS3 to go with my Wii has been complicated again.

Aussie dollar isn't worth as much as the U.S dollar.

Although it has caught up to it recently. So I guess NOW it IS a bit expensive.

^Sadly the strength of the Aussie dollar has never affected the pricing of console's or software down under, we pay two to three times more than gamers in the US all the time. We are disgustingly ripped off on every single piece of hardware and software released, our lack of importance in the overall gaming market is a severe disadvantage.
