Full Version: Cows attack dog walker in field

A Sussex policeman has been discharged from hospital after an attack by about 50 cows left him with four broken ribs and a punctured lung.

Insp Chris Poole, 50, said the cattle repeatedly butted and stamped on him when he was out walking his dog earlier this month.

The officer said he was crossing a field along a footpath. One cow butted him in the back, forcing him to the ground, before the others joined in, he recalled.

Mr Poole said he managed to escape when his Golden Retriever, called Zak, fled, distracting the cows. He was taken by air ambulance after attracting the attention of another dog walker.

He suffered bruising from his thigh to his shoulder, and faced a life-threatening situation three days later when one of his broken ribs severed an artery.

The RSPCA said cows could become protective of their young to the point of becoming aggressive, especially if a large dog was nearby.

That's odd that cows would attack like that.. I could see them trampling him if they'd been spooked, but not out and out aggressiveness. Dang... ph34r.gif

I overHERD that they only MOO'ved in on him to try and STEER him in the direction away from their babies. They get in a MOOO'ED if you go near them.

The man was not considered COWardly by trying to run off, in fact, nothing could be FODDER from the truth.

I also understand that one of them bit his CALF, I think it was his right one, but it could have been the UDDER one?

When the man was in hospital, I HERD the cows sent him some daisies to try and BUTTER him up so he didn't press charges, but that might have been BULL...

OK, OK, I'll shut up but I was trying to MILK the cow puns for all they were worth...

Anyways, poor guy! How scary would that be! There's cows in the field I walk my puppy in every morning and they seem really timid, I'd be scared stiff if they attacked anyone.

Uh... yea, cow's are MEAN. Really they can be quite hostile; especially after giving birth.

I lived on a dairy farm for many years and never did see any of the cows being mean or vicious.. even after calving.. the bulls were mean though tongue.gif

You were trying to tip cows over, and you call THEM mean??
Ya big bully!

Maybe the cows attacked that man because they were tired of people always tipping them and they wanted revenge. So in a way YOU are responsible for this mans injuries! tongue.gif

I've often wondered...is there a point to cow tipping?
Is it purely an american phenomenon?
A cow tried to push me into a river once, i think it was having a laugh.

Cows are sinsister.
Sheep aren't much better. They have slotted eyes. They stare at me.
Dogs make me nervous.
Ducks look at me in funny ways. I'm SURE they quack about me behind my back.
You can't trust Gerbils. And I'm sure the goldfish are sniggering.

I've always wanted to live in the country original.gif

Okay yes, I admit it... I must be the reason and I'm sorry. But HEY WAIT... we NEVER tipped a cow!!!! We just climbed over the pen and (well I guess we all were laughing and woke them up) and then all I remember is running for my LIFE! I think my shoe was sacrified to the "Cow Pie Goddess".

(((Shhhhh, I am really nice ---not a bully hee hee BULLY -- and I do animal rescue. I'm just a little crazy sometimes...Shhhhhhhh...)))

I was raised around cows, and ours were really tame. We could pet all of them. But, we were always warned to never go into a field of strange cows. They can attack with very little warning.

Lucky they didn't all give him a PAT on the head!
Maybe he just DUNG deserved it!
Payback!
Don't UDDERestimate those cows.......lol.
Or maybe that policeman fell over and, to explain his injuries, was trying to pull the UDDER one with his mates.

Cows and strangers dont mix specially adding a Dog . cows with young are more danerous than any bull but a stranger with a dog in their field. youd be lucky to get out alive.

Yup. People just don't think of cows like that. Bulls, yes, most people think they are dangerous, which they are, but cows are still not to be trusted.
