Full Version: a type of sleep paralysis?

sleep paralysis is something ive dealt with on numerous occasions before, a few nights ago something totally different happened though. i was curled up in a ball on the bottom end of my couch facing the back, trying to get to sleep after taking a few sleeping pills. i was half awake half asleep, or i had fallen asleep and JUST woken up almost as i was totally asleep, im not exactly sure. but i coldnt move, i was pretty much concious but totally unable to move. im able to tell myself "yeah whatever just wait for your brain to reconnect itself and concentrate on breathing" when this happens, but for some reason, after i had told myself this my head started to pound, it wasnt a pain, it was just POUNDING like a jackhammer on my skull. i couldnt move at all still, and my eyes which i had finally pried open were pulsing with my head, my blankets had all become a huge blur, almost no colors were dicipherable. it must have been like this for two to three minutes, i was horrified, or at least the part of me that was still functioning was horrified. all of a sudden i felt someone lay their hand on the side head (no one was in my room, i am positive, i lock my door every single time i come in and all the other members of the household were asleep hours ago) and started to whisper in my ear. i cant remember what they were saying to me, but almost instantly the pounding started to slow, i was able to flex my hands, i rolled/fell over ontomy bac k and looked over and saw a very familiar face of a good friend. they disappeared almost instantly and i was left laying there in total shock trying to figure out what the hell had happened. i got a drink a few minutes later, instead of being a convulsing massacre of a corpse i was fluid and calm with my movements, i was able to do everything in a nice mannor. which i think is unusual considering what had just happened. does anyone have any ideas at all? this is nothing like i have ever experienced before. all the next day and that night i was so calm, so incredibly peaceful and ok. not the type of feeling im accustomed to.

That Is why I don't take sleeping pills.. I've had something like this happen when I would get sick as a kid, This only happened twice, It was just a hallucination

Sleeping Pills + No Sleep + Sickness = Hallucinations

Was this friend of yours someone who has passed on?

It's a crazy experience no doubt. Thanks for sharing maybe you should check out some stories other people may have experienced with sleeping pills to see if anything similar has happened. (Pounding in your head)

You might just have experienced a more severe for of sleep paralysis, due to the sleeping pills.
What you describe still seems like sleep paralysis - people can't move, see and hear things and are often "touched". Many people see spiders, or dark figures, some even feel they are being chocked by something sitting on top of them.
However, if you have any health issues you might reconsider taking those pills or even get checked out. The quick heartbeat could have been triggered by your fear, or it might be a health issue. 9I am no doc wink2.gif

I wouldn't worry about it - it was just your brain wink2.gif Though I feel sorry that you had to go through this.

ive had something similar to this happen to me twice before. the first time i was at my grandmas drifting off to sleep on an air mattress, and all of the sudden it was like a mallet was pounding my head, and i was stuck, couldnt move, started to panic because it felt like i was drifting off into some kind of unconsciousness, but then i willed myself out of it after about 10 seconds, chilled myself out and went back to sleep normally. didnt have any visual/audio hallucinations though like you with the whispering and seeing your friend. the second time i was at my house in my bed trying to sleep when it started happening again, this time i got the overwhelming sensation that i was stuck in some sort of time loop, started drifting off again until i again forced myself out of it. someone told me, dont remember if it was someone from this site or somewhere else, that it was the begining of an OBE, and if wouldve just given in and let go i wouldve had the full experience. wasnt sure about that diagnosis but i dont really know anything about OBEs at all so who knows

I've read afew experiences about drug psychosis, and this trapped in a time loop sensation is commonly reported. Now I'm not saying your suffering from psychosis of any form, just that the time loop thing seems to be inherent in the human psyche. With out researching it properly (at all) I've often wondered if it has something to do with our habitual nature. After all we are creatures of habit, in almost everything we do.

yeah he was

How have you been since this experience as opposed to before? There have been cases of spirits possessing a sick person while working to heal that person. If there was something wrong with you before this happened, it might not still be a problem. Other than that I cannot say without more information.

i'v had the same things happen! except no sleepin pills! once time it happend when i was on a coutch and my friend was watching tv. and he just happend to turn around and saw me while i was in the state and i could see him and HAHA OMG HE GOT FREAKED OUT! my face must have had some distorted evil expression on it! he said i looked just pure fear. iv also heard voices when im alone in the state of paralysis. i remember it said something about a time coming near or something. *sigh* oh a good way to snap out of the paralysis is to try and shake ur head from side to side real fast! it takes a lot of energy but if u can manage to do it u will soon become all awake!

i think my brain is just fine right now....if thats what you mean O.O i had a huge accident happen with dosages two nights ago. i had a heart rate of 198 bpm and the rate for heart failure in a brat my age and size is 200 bpm. could this have anything to do with the experience? maybe he was trying to tell me something, to warn me....? im just throwing ideas out there.

Ive had almost the same thing happen to me, but it was after 4 gin and tonics wink2.gif ... and a few other things that i dont feel like disclosing.. my body went totally numb and i could only breathe, blink, and move my fingers a bit. i think that the sleeping pills could very well have something do to with it. to many of them will slow your heart down so much that you may die, my cousin and i once revived a man we found lying on the side of the road barely breathing with a bottle of vodka and sleeping pills next to him. unsure.gif

i have had almost the same experience, it was a few years ago, i was dateing this chick, and everytime i hurt her feelings orwhatsoever something bad happend to me i think its karma, anyways that day we were supposed to to hook up, and i just said i cant today and she was really dissepointed and we broke up, i went to take a quick sleep that afternoon, when suddenly i felt alla awke, i was faceing the wall in my room, for a minute my eye lids were really heavy i could bearly keep my eyes open, and suddenly i felt this bad vibe going right trough me same time i feel and hear someone walking in to the room, and since i cant move i could only see a blurry shaddow on the wall, i was so scared and excited at the same time, i feel this thing lean over to my head so his face is almost at my ear, and he just stands there for maybe 5-10 sec, after that i hear him walk away slowly and i had this feeling that went right trough my spine this cold feeling i cant describe it in words. but after he left i could move again, and i went to check everything in the house no one was home.....

hm.. as a really really far out idea: maybe your girlfriend is unknowingly strongly linked to the spirtual world, and every time you dissapointed her she would send horrible vibes and things over to you as a sort of revenge.... On a more scientific note: maybe it was all just a dream? or a pet walked by?
