Chrisitians are divided about devotion to saints. Protestants are typically unenthusiastic about saints, except possibly matyrs, so Joseph is treated the same as many others.
In contrast, Roman Catholics like saints. Joseph is well regarded among Catholics, frequently depicted in art, has churches named after him, etc. He can't complain

Mary is a pivotal figure in a way that her husband is not. She is Jesus' link to humanity, while Joseph is but one helper among many. Mary was also active in the Jesus movement, if the scriptures are to be believed. Joseph had apparently departed by the time of the crucifixion, for instance, while Mary is a witness.
And, of course, women are magic, while men are simply along for the ride.
