Alright I had a question I use to ask often and decided to put it on here under Mysteries of MIND, Space & Time.
Since having an Alter Ego is a condition of the mind.
Okay if someone has a split personality and they know that they do and the commit suicide is it considered murder or suicide or is it both???

I would consider it suicide. Murder means killing another person. This is just a person killing himself; it doesn't matter the personality when they killed themselves.

You are still in one body and have one social security number. Not making fun, just saying. I lived with a gal with MPD for about 3 months once. It was a very interesting experience.

suicide, doesn't matter if they have a split personality, if they killed themselves, it would still be suicide.
hmm, but that would be what it is to us, i donno what it would be to someone who has this disorder.

Well I chose both.
if it really were a true seperate personality then should that 'person\personality' not have the right to live? (Unless it is diabolical or something...)
Who really knows in any case...

It's not suicide ..
Because you're other personality would still be "Alive"

I voted for Murder.. it's the intention that counts. ( I think ) the other personality intended to kill the other personality so I guess it will go under the Murder Section..

As far as I am aware, a person with a true split personality is mentally ill, therefore if they killed themselves it would be a "diminished responsibility" suicide.
A person with split personality is, by the way, just one person, but their personalities manifest particularly after traumatic events, to say one of these personalities has the right to live doesn't even really come into it, because the person themselves is still one person, their mind is, however, split.
If someone were to develop multiple personalities, it would not be for the fun of it that's for sure and to label such a person as a murderer if they were to kill themselves is leaving absolutely no room for compassion

i think both since your killing yourself and the other personality
but intention doesn't have much to do with it murder is murder accident or not.

Not if it were diabolical and in MY body it would have no rights!

I voted both murder and suicide because it depends on the circumstances. It would be both murder and suicide if one personality killed the body to kill another personality. It would be suicide if the personality wanted to end its own life.

If someone comes and sits in your house and refuses to budge, eats all your grub and drinks all your drinks, uses your computer and reads all your books, washes themselves in your sink and uses your toilet. Then retires to your bed wearing your pyjamas, then when they awake they decide to cut all your clothes up, smash your belongings and kill your dog, would you consider it their right to remain there because they exist?
This is what this thread is about really. Giving permission for something else to be inside a person. There is no excuse for such a thing and if it were to happen it would be grave, if you were aware to let it remain so.
I do suspect however, that the whole thing is a wind-up

technically, you are the same person, so it would be considered suicide.

i said it would be murder not suicide, for you are killing a being with-in you and though it may not be a liver person it is still murder in my books
