Developers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology are giving gas to an idea they hope will reduce traffic congestion and parking woes.

Lithium-ion batteries would power the City Car, which would be able to be collapsed and stacked like a grocery cart, with six to eight of the vehicles fitting into one parking spot.

The two-seater would weigh between 1,000 pounds and 1,200 pounds and is being designed as a shared car that someday may be available through kiosks around a city.

A prototype is slated for 2008.

It looks better than a Smart car to me. Better than a Sinclair C5.

Who would drive it? People that can not afford parking charges for larger vehicles. People concious of the environment, but genuinely so.

Good news is, cops are gonna get their own line of these things as well.

cops made even lazier. they've just removed their only exercise.. walking.

want cops in hummers or something
I'd drive it (nothing to do with "It says I care because I drive this car." junk), but doesn't look safe.
Doesn't look powerful enough. I've got a family of 5 and carry a good bit of cargo... little league, basketball games, football games, cub scouts blah blah need a truck.
