I'll ask a question:
What is the only word meaning "the study of..." (e.g. biology, zoology, and the like) that does not end in -ology?
What about geography?

I know...and everything else along those lines. I guess I was just talking about the "ologies", but even that's wrong...

I was going for "genealogy", but "mineralogy" is right, too. Whoever told me there was only one was wrong, I guess. But enough of that...back to the mahogany question (unless we'd rather just get the answer and get a better question.

A. because it is commercially extinct?

Nope...this is kind of obscure, so I'll give a hint: think about density.

A)
Anything to do with it's weight ?
What about the fact that it's so heavy you can't load enough onto the ship to cover shipping costs unless the retail prices is incredibly high.
Either that or the fact that the weight causes ships to sink

Really close that time...it does involve cost of transport. Think about how trees are transported after they're cut down.

A. Mayb because they are too wide or too tall to actually fit in a ship .. like its hard to find a proper ship to carry such size

I'll admit this was a bad question...so I'll just answer it so we can move on to better, fun questions!
Answer: After trees are cut down, the logs are floated down a river/stream to a saw mill. However, mahogany is the only type of wood that is more dense than water, so it does not float. Because of this, it has to be transported by trucks, which is more costly and difficult.
That was too elaborate for a trivia question...I think I'll leave the questions up to someone else from now on.

Thanks to everyone who guessed.

Correct PP .. but since your answer was very brief .. I'll give more info ..
Nausicaa is the white elbowed young Princess, who lives in an island, she is mentioned in Homer's Odyssey.
QUOTE
The daughter of Alcinous, king of the Phaeacians. When Odysseus shipwrecked on Alcinous' island, Scheria, he was found by Nausicaa. She received him with elegance and great hospitality and brought him to her father's palace. She is one of the most charming figures in the Odyssey.

Which country "invented" (or produced the rules of and made popular) golf??

Mar 8 2005, 07:49 PM
Nearly every area around the world has some claim to the origination of golf. Scotland, of course, has its claim. But so do China, Rome, England, France, Holland, Belgium, even Laos. Every country has a game consisting of sticks and balls, and every country is correct in its assumption that it invented the game. But there is no one country where ‘golf’ actually began...
