QUOTE (Allie @ Sep 19 2003, 11:19 PM)
Q. Who committed the first train robbery in the United States?
A. The first SUCCESSFUL train robbery was actually the third attempt.
Billy Bob and Earl Hennessy of Kansas made the second attempt at a train robbery in 1862. Their plan was great. They had their guns (loaded this time, hence the second attempt), they had the dynamite for the lock boxes. But, their plan for getting the train to actually stop had some flaws. Their elder brother, Babbit, made the first attempt by trying to stop the train by standing on the tracks. Didn't work. Billy Bob and Earl figured that maybe he just wasn't big enough and the engineer didn't see him. Sadly the second attempt was also their last. Train still didn't stop, and there were no more Hennessy brothers to try.
So, The Reno Brothers took up the challenge with a new plan and made the first train robbery in the US in 1866.

QUOTE (Exeter @ Sep 20 2003, 07:33 AM)
Q. What infamous serial killer was born in England in 1748?
A. As far as serial killers go, Jeremy M. Mackelbern was a class act. Born in Durham in 1749, he quickly grew into a rather rambunctious young lad. Always in trouble at school and at home, shunned by storekeepers, even his own friends shied away when he approached because they knew trouble followed. Well, as little Jerry grew up he decided to take a decidedly serious new look at his own personal appearance. His eye had caught sight of a most beautiful lady, you see. A Dutchess, visiting his town for whatever reason Dutchesses visit other towns. After he had picked his jaw up from the ground and lodged it very firmly back in place, Jerry ran straight home for a bath, a shave, and some fresh clothes. This was probably the biggest challenge of his life to date. After beating the bath tub into submission enough to allow him to enter, the water promptly fizzled and evaporated. Jerry's two brothers, John and Morton, gathered some local folks to help with a "fire brigade" bucket line to get water flowing fast enough to was poor Jerry's filthy self. Several hours later, after the bath, Jerry commenced to dull three razor bladeson his beard. It was at this point that he decided he would need professional help. And so, off Jerry went to London to find the best barber he knew (also the only one he knew that would do it for free). Unbeknownst to Jerry, however, his bath water had tainted... no... poisoned the entire water supply in Northern England, quietly killing just about everyone, including the Dutchess. Jerry's barber, on the other hand, was not quite so subtle in his dealings.
Sweeney Todd, The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, born in 1748, just a year earlier than poor Jerry.
