An Indonesian man whose body is covered with extraordinary tree-like growths has spoken of his hope that an American doctor will cure his unique condition and help him rebuild his family life. Dede, now 35, baffled medical experts when warty "roots" began growing out of his arms and feet after he cut his knee in a teenage accident. Sacked from his job and deserted by his wife, Dede has been unable to look after his two children Entang and Utis, who are now aged 16 and 18. They have been brought up apart from their farther by his extended family on the other side of their remote village south of the capital Jakarta. With Dede's condition considered life threatening, he had resigned himself to missing out on the remaining joys of fatherhood. But now a dermatology expert who flew out from the United States to examine his rare condition says that a course of synthetic Vitamin A should clear up most of the warts, and Dede is contemplating a transformed life. "I can't work, I can't provide money," Dede said. "I want to be able to take care of them [his children].
I hope to live long enough to see my grandchildren." After testing samples of the lesions and Dede's blood, Dr Gaspari of the University of Maryland concluded that his affliction is caused by the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), a fairly common infection that usually causes small warts to develop on sufferers.

That looks like a scary condition... Though he seems to be handling it well.
This made me think of Morgellon's.

Wow. Now here's a likely candidate for Ripley's Believe It or Not. I watched the video and I have to applaud him for his good nature while going through his bizarre condition. I can't say I would act the same way if I was plagued with something like that.

I apologize in advance for *maybe* sounding insensitive...but am I really first one who noticed his kid's name was 'Entang'? or just the only person who thinks this is a weird enough coincidence to comment on?

I remember also reading somewhere that a man in Eastern Europe was diagnosed with this as well.
It also resembles a disease found in Rabbits and Hares that
apparently is the reason for the 'Jackalope' myth.
Actuuuaaaally, I think I read about it on these very forums! Needless to say, it gives me the creeps!

It's Swamp Thing
Hi I'm new on here and have signed up only to comment on this thread.
Why? Well that's simple; I saw the comments being made about this poor chap and could not help wondering how you would
feel if it were someone that you had grown up with or even more poignant, A member of your own family.
I do not know this man but recognise he is extremely unfortunate to be afflicted with this very rare and upsetting condition.
the torture he has endured and the bravery he demonstrates deserves all our respect.
Finger pointing and name-calling should remain in the classroom where it belongs.
Remember we live in a world with millions of illnesses..... Lets hope we remain safe from them.
He shows dignity.... keep yours .

I read where a doctor from Maryland went over to see him and feels he can be cured of this virus, and lead a healthy life....They are now trying to raise money to bring him to the States for treatment...

Oh..my..god.. I don't even know what to say.. All I know is that this makes me appreciate life a little more, considering this guy seems in decent spirits and he has this horrible condition. I feel as if I should never complain again.

I watched this documentary and at the very end it said that the Doctor could cure this man and the man declined.
I think it was something to do with the payment he was getting from the freak show.

I know, he seemed pretty desperate to get it fixed at first, which makes it even sadder. The doctor said he could almost certainly practically cure him.
His warts really do look like tree bark.
