so what did you do when you got there? what did IT do? what are the other circumstances surrounding the situation?
Big Cat sightings are quite common.

once my friend and i were driving up in the hills by my house in San Jose, CA. We had taken Mount Hamilton road up very far up and turned on Kincaid. This is really really far up in the hills at least 3000 feet up, in mostly patchy grass with oak trees. We noticed something move to the side of the road so I slowed down. We saw not one but two mountain lion cub come under a barbed wire fence and then noticed mother a couple of steps ahead. My friend would have pet it if you window was down and he wanted his arm ripped out of the socket.
see what i did there, mentioned where i was at, said something about the type of area. Gave a city and state.

Yeah, you need to give us a state or city or something so we can determine if cougars even live in your area. Maybe it was a lynx? They get pretty shaggy.

Doo0od! NO WAI!
It saddens me that you can go out and hunt but you have no idea about your local wildlife..just take a gander at pics of your local big cats. Mabey it was just a cougar.

It was most likely a standerd cougar with a bad case of mange.Often when animals suffer from mange their fur becomes blotchy and tangled. It looks like a shag carpet someone tried to shave.

Did the animal look dirty and skinny? That is also a common sign.

big cats are out there, your lucky it didnt attack, they are so damn big. i dunno what i would do if i was cornered by one with no weapon or anything, i guess i would try to pick up dirt of a log and swing it, but i doubt that would do much, maybe if i used them both in a combinition i would have a chance to run like hell for a while. unfortunatly there are many types of big cats so i am unsure as to what you saw.
what i mean to say is glad you didnt get eaten.
