A few weeks ago I suffered concussion and had some very odd experiences with it. Has anyone else had this happen to them?

Here's what happened to me. I was playing Sunday league football (soccer) in a cup match. The game finished 2-2 but in a cup match this means 30 mins extra time. So extra time gets underway and within the first few minutes I go up for a header and another guy crashes into the back of me and thats all I remember from the game! Now this is where it gets wierd! After this happened there are still about 20 odd minutes to go and I play on! No one seems to think there is anything wrong with me until the end when we score the winning goal with 2 minutes to go (obviously cue wild celebrations) but I just stand there (so i'm told). After the game people notice something is wrong and i'm off to the hospital which is only a few minutes away.

I cant remember to much about the hospital or anything else that day and the extra time period is completely gone from my memory. But the next day I got back bits and pieces of my memory but not of it makes sense ! One instance is me on the pitch but the pitch is very bumpy and sort of wobbly and everyone is struggling to run or walk! Obviously this never happend but it was clear as day in my mind! Also the sky is like a pinkish purple colour! Another thing that came back to me was the hospital but that didnt seem right either, it seemed like it took hours to get there and I was only in the hospital for about half hour or so but in reality it took a few minutes to get to the there (you can see the hospital from our pitch) and I was there 5 hours!

One more thing I'd like to talk about is the dreams I had the following few days, well nights. They were like nothing i've ever had before. Cant really remember alot of detail but they mostly consisted of me being in places I've never been or recognised and seeing odd things that I cant even begin to describe! Also lots of unusual colours! After I woke up it still seemed like a dream and I was having trouble deciding what was real and what was my dream/imagination. Also on a few occasions I heard voices talking (not to me, just to each other) but no one else was around. After a few more days I got back to normal but the whole experience was, well amazing I guess! It just seemed like I'd been away somewhere for a while, like a really great holiday or something. Nothing about the whole experience was scary or threatening in anyway, just genuinely seemed like I was somewhere else for a few days!

I know this isnt about aliens or ghosts or me seeing other dimensions etc, just saying how our own minds work is as big a mystery as anything! So anyone else 'suffered' concussion or anything like this?

p.s. I dont take drugs or drink alcohol before anyone suggests! wink2.gif

Did you get the all-clear from the hospital? Concussion can be very dangerous, a lot of people think it is just when you bang your head hard, but there is a lot more to it than that.

If you get any further side-effects, I would not hesitate in popping back to the hospital if I were you.

Regarding your experiences, I should think your brain took a massive shock and didn't know where it was, perhaps it was even some sort of "short out".

Take care

I had two concussions when I was a kid, both from ice skating...I only remember everything being hazy and then very bad headaches for about a week...Concussions can cause an inability to function properly for awhile...Maybe your Doctor would have some answers for you...good luck...

I've had concussions but I've never had any memory loss or adverse effects beyond headaches and drowsiness.

Congrats on your team winning by the way =D

I had something similar happen to me when I was a kid...I was only about 6 and I remember my older cousin was jumping off our sofa onto the love seat, over a pretty thick wooden coffee table. Of course, I had to try it, and missed. By a lot.

I smashed my forehead into the coffee table, and of course, went into hysterics immediately. My mother smooshed some ice into my head, and packed me up into the car to go to the ER. I remember things being off, colors were abnormal, i could see an outline around all shapes, like everything in my field of vision had been drawn with a big black marker. I don't remember the hospital, but I do remember hearing voices when I was at home, and like you, they weren't talking to me, and I wasn't scared in the least.

I also remember being dizzy, but it was not the airy lightheaded dizzy, it was a violent shaking, and I remember trying to figure out if my eyes were shaking. Eventually all the symptoms stopped and my concussion cleared, but it was a very odd and mystifying experience.
