Ok this happened about this time last year. It's only ever happened once. As I was waking up one morning, I felt a very slight sensation in my abdomen, then saw a black 'line' shoot upwards and disappear. The end of this line was kind of diamond shaped but not very big. The line itself was small as well, obviously in my waking state I didnt have a ruler, but at a guess I'd say it was about 5mm wide at its' widest.

As I say I have not experienced it since. The only effect I got from it was the abdominal sensation (It was kind of like when you go down a hill in a car suddenly). There were no marks or aftereffects. I thought at first I was imagining things but I can't see myself imagining physically and optically at the same time. It was quite odd but not scary in any sense. Does anyone have any ideas as to what it might have been?

Hypnopompic is the searchable term.

Why not? Your vestibular, proprioceptive, and visual systems work together all the time.

True as that may be I don't see myself imagining something so random and inexplicable through two senses.

Of course you don't, no one ever does. It's human nature to trust your senses, so when something happens that defies what you know of reality, it is hard to comprehend that your senses were deceiving you.

I don't know what happened to you, and I am not even going to venture to guess, but what I am saying is that the mind is so much more intelligent than we consciously recognize, and can do all kinds of thins to trick you. It is your brain, after all, it can make your consciousness think anything it wants it to.

Yeah I suppose. I can see where you're both coming from. I have no idea what it was and I have no guesses either.
