Can you tell me how to get, how to get to Sesame Street? Yes, but only if you're 18.

The early episodes of the legendary children's TV show have been released on DVD, but uh, children will not be allowed to watch.

Volumes 1 and 2 of the programme, which was first aired in 1969, carry this warning: 'Sesame Street: Old School is adults-only.

'These early Sesame Street episodes are intended for grown-ups, and may not suit the needs of today's pre-school child.'

However, anyone expecting scenes where Big Bird lives up to his name will be disappointed.

The reasons for the warning are much less perverted.

According to the show's producers, kids today would not be able to handle watching Cookie Monster holding a pipe, which he later eats.

The character who has posed the most problems, however, is Oscar the Grouch. His crime? He is too miserable for today's toddlers.

You have to wonder, what's next? Will Jamie have to hand back his Magic Torch because it's too bright?

Will DangerMouse be forced to change his moniker because it is too, well, dangerous? MildPerilMouse just doesn't have the same ring to it.

I wasn't sheltered from this when I was a kid and I turned out fine.

It must be Bert and Ernie's blatantly S&M relationship that people are complaining about.

These people that make such rulings, I wonder what sort of upbringing they had?

They are obviously prim and proper, sheltered do-gooders who should go out and get a life!

I wonder if they ever get drunk and swing on lampshades?

Yeah, people were starting to see lookalikes in dustbins everywhere. They're called the homeless.

LOL, I wonder if these people ever read Grimms Fairytales-stories that families used to sit around listening to long before tv was even thought of. And Sesame Street is scary? Come on!

This is great news.

Now the next generation of kids wont have their brainwashed by nonsense like, "hey this is what the world is really like, we can work together to make it better but you MUST watch out for danger"...because as well all know..the world is perfect...unicorns dispense minty fresh pez candies from the clouds and tops of double decker sandwhich buses as the rice krispie fairies dance to make the baby sun come back upto the sky....

is elmo shooting bigbird an urban legend?

Sigh...if you over protect and shelter children they will grow up not being able to deal with the real world.

This is why, if you take parenting advice from the tv or newspaper... You're not a good enough parent to stand on your own.

These article are the kind of thing you say "**** you" to while you parent your child, not being a drone-parent.

Exactly. Not all children are the same, thye all have their own personality and quirks and that has to be considered when parenting. Parents and children cannot be generalized.

Wow, that's a shame. Sesame street has been really ground-breaking in terms of children's tv, they were one of the first kids programs to talk about death and in other countries they've had HIV+ characters. I learned a lot from watching the show when I was younger.
