could it be possible to be immortal using technology instead of relying on religious beliefs? i heard something that scientists are working on about a way to "turn off" the switch that tells your body to begin aging after certain age and i also heard something about downloading your thoughts and memories into a computer or robot and that way you(or at least something like you) might live forever. what's your oppinion on this, is it possible? and please post if you have heard another theory or if you know something about the ones i mentioned

There are alot of science fiction novels that revolve around these ideas. Cloning, or manufacturing a new body, then 'downloading' ones memories into it, creating a part 2 of your life.

I have heard of the 'aging' gene, but from what I had understood, it was assumed at the time that turning off the gene at the wrong time could result in immortal infants, or death. At least that was the consensus when I read the article.

I don't think it is impossible. Look at what we can do with technology today. We are already cloning, and have pinpointed the exact cells that can be used to recreate any part of a human body. The hardest part would be finding a way to record human memories on a storage device, and then using some kind of playback mechanism in the new body. I don't think we are anywhere close to that yet, but 100 years ago, people would have never believed that we could store music on little plastic disks, either.

This is more philosophical (not my strong point) but i do not think that a persons self ones soul can be downloaded, also the gene i think is called the grime reaper gene, the life spans of humans are going up and up! also the gene makes you age 7 times faster, so being born with it off, being a baby for 7 long years, and being 10 and 70 years!
I think in a few centuries life spans will have to be predicted because of how long we will be living, and maybe in the distant future human may become immortal... maybe.

Cells does not age instantly especially for those who are just born or are still infants. there's a certain age where the cells begin to age. so if they turned off the gene that makes us old it will not turn out to be Immortal Infants.

If you can prevent your DNA from being damaged each time a cell divides, and alter your body cells to have the ability to split an unlimited amount of times then you can retain your youth for a VERY long time. Immortality isn't possible I don't think because no matter what somebody could always be killed.

maybe theres a way to really counter aging. maybe theres a medicine somewhere outhere yet to be discovered that can really grant regeneration of brain cells or maybe stop them from aging. with our brain cells regenerated, we cant die. i have a friend who told me that the cause of death and aging is the very gas we need to live, its oxygen. i dont know.
