Night Shadows
Lying safely in your bed on a cold winter night,
Through your bedroom window, a full moon shines bright.
Outside the frigid wind is beginning to howl,
Sounding as if mysterious creatures are on the prowl.
All of a sudden the leafless branches on the nearby trees,
Begin to sway violently in the cold gusty breeze.
Suddenly you are awakened by a loud unfamiliar sound,
As a weak limb snaps and comes crashing to the ground.
Now you are wide-awake as you lie there trying to decide,
What the eerie noises are coming from outside.
Sleep is impossible as you toss and turn in your bed,
And you can't escape the thoughts that have entered your head.
You try to picture an image for each sound that you hear,
And all the while you are putting yourself deeper into fear.
Then turning your back to the window, facing the bedroom wall,
The horrifying sight you see makes your skin begin to crawl.
Dancing around the room is the most frightening display,
For now the night shadows have come out to play.
