Beijing - (UPI) - A cow in China achieved a bovine rarity, giving birth to four calves.

A cow belonging to Guo Xeufeng, a cow breeder in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, gave birth to three female calves and one male. All were in good condition.

While very rare, quadruplets in cows are not unknown -- a Canadian cow did it in August -- and not even the record. A cow in Mexico gave birth to five calves in March 2005, a world record.

Animal experts said cows generally give birth to one calf and the probability of producing twins is only 2 percent to 4 percent. It is extremely rare that three calves are born at one time and the probability of quadruplets is much lower.

Hey, I've been up to my shoulder in cow birthing just one calf; its a messy, nasty, loud, painful and messy ordeal. Did I mention it's messy?

I couldn't imagine a cow birthing four in a row. She must have been completely exhausted!

Lucky for most healthy cows that milk production shouldn't be an issue as they calves were most likely born quite small. She'll have plenty of time yo increase her milk production as the little ones grow.

By the way, who's hungry for steak?
