Beijing - (UPI) - A cow in China achieved a bovine rarity, giving birth to four calves.
A cow belonging to Guo Xeufeng, a cow breeder in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, gave birth to three female calves and one male. All were in good condition.
While very rare, quadruplets in cows are not unknown -- a Canadian cow did it in August -- and not even the record. A cow in Mexico gave birth to five calves in March 2005, a world record.
Animal experts said cows generally give birth to one calf and the probability of producing twins is only 2 percent to 4 percent. It is extremely rare that three calves are born at one time and the probability of quadruplets is much lower.
