Reading, England, - (UPI) - A student driver in England says she was abandoned during her driving test by an examiner who "just wandered off."

Faye Rivers, 17, said the examiner left after a problem with the handbrake on the car she was driving.

Rivers was trying to start the engine on a hill but the handbrake failed so she kept her foot on the brake pedal and the examiner left to call for help.

"But he came back and said he couldn't get through. Then he said there was nothing else he could do and told me to phone my driving instructor to come and get me, before walking off," she said.

"I didn't know what to do and for all I knew, the car was about to blow up. But he just wandered off.

"I was so angry. It took 20 minutes for my instructor to find me. I was pressing the brake pedal so hard with my foot, it went numb."

Keith Riley, the teenager's instructor at Reading Driving Academy, said the ordeal gave Rivers experience she may need when she becomes a licensed driver. laugh.gif

Shouldn't be driving if you think the car is going to blow up. (turns the ignition on) *boom*

I hope the examiner gets fired over that! what a moron, she doesn't have her license but leaves her in the car?

The Examiner was an ass. His ability to deal with situations should be looked at very closely and then his job should be too.

Out of interest, were you paying for the whole lesson or did she deduct her shopping time off the bill? blink.gif

I took my driving test in Nelson which is built on the side of a mountain. You should have seen where the examiner took me!! Good grief! And I was in a standard, and you are not allowed to roll back. All we could see out of the windshield was the sky! But, I did it. Kind of reminded me of 'License to Drive' with Corey Haim.

the examiner was probably up himself/herself, its pathetic i hope he/she loses her job.

ohmy.gif that's pretty bad. Surely she should have known to park the car in gear and turn the wheels towards the curb to secure it, what do they teach them!? tongue.gif I failed my driving test on one occasion because the car broke down. But the examiner was decent enough to walk me back to the test centre grin2.gif

Here in Australia they do it by having the instructor in the car while the examiner is there (both have to be in during the test), but still pretty stupid of the examiner

I learned to drive in the city and if you can drive there you can drive anywhere...at least I thought so, till I took my test...I'm small so my seat was all the way up...I got some fat oom-pa, who had trouble getting in the passenger side because I wouldn't put the seat back to let him in...I failed before I even got on the road w00t.gif

My driving instructor made me pull over every ten minutes so he could have another cigarette. He would tell me, "Just drive around the parking lot here while I smoke this." At the end of the three lessons, he just scribbled a 100 in the "Final Score" section and said, "You didn't crash, right?"
