A website I use to visit pretty often had went down for a few days. According to everyone I talk to, it's back up. However, I can't seem to access it. Everytime I try to visit it, I get the "Server Not Found" error. I thought it might be firefox, so I tried with IE... same result. I asked a friend of mine to visit the site and PM an Admin to make sure I wasn't banne(Had no reason to be), and I wasn't. I researched a little more, and found out it could be a DNS problem and that flushing my DNS should work. Well, I found a guide on how to do it on Vista, but that didn't work either. For the record, this is what I did:

Start > All Programs > Accessories > Right Click on CMD > Run As Administrator > Typed "ipconfig /flushdns" > CMD says "Successful"

I still can't access this website. I've even tried pining it, but it says server not found. Anyone else have any solutions?

The website: www.eathena.ws

That's odd. I'm getting redirected, have you tried http://www.eathena.ws/board/ ? Maybe something is keeping you from getting redirected in Vista? Possibly a security setting somewhere that doesn't like the site? Strange.

Bear with me if I don't respond soon, will be very busy the next couple of days but I'll try to check back.

Well, according to what I've read, when a website is ACTUALLY down and you cache it, that cache can sometimes "stick", causing the problem even when the site is actually back up. It sounds like this would be the problem since it WAS down for a few days. I just can't figure out for sure, or how to fix it =/. And no, that link doesn't work.

I don't mean this to sound offensive to you, however;

If you're using firefox, click on tools >> clear private data.

OR, (I suggest doing both) go into your; my computer >>> users >>> administrator (or equivalent) >>> App data >>> Local >>> Temp >>> then delete everything in there.

Already done that. I've even used another browser. I'm not a novice to the gernal aspects of computers. Hell, I run a game server and script for it as well. But, I've tried all of the known solutions to this sort of problem. Nothing works. =/.

Might be the routing problem. Not your home router, but those routers that take cares the internet traffics out there. You might need a proxy. Try this one

http://www.anonymouse.org

Choose either English or Deutsch, and then type in the url of the desired website.

You might want to try this proxy as well

Check your HOSTS file. An entry could have added that webpage associated with another ip or w/e which redirects it no matter what you use to view it in.

Hosts file on WinXP is located at C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc

View it with Notepad or Notepad++
Search for the link or ip of the page that is being redirected.
Crovus v2.0
And if none of this works, google search an IP lookup site. Like this one: http://www.selfseo.com/find_ip_address_of_a_website.php

Punch in the link for the site you're trying to get to and this will tell you what the actual IP address is for that site. Punch the IP address into your browser and away you go.

Wish I'd seen this thread earlier..
I've been in the same situation as Zero for the past week. It's extremely irritating. On both browsers (IE, and Firefox) it's "can't find server" when trying to reach UM, 9 out of 10 times!! & it seems to be this site only... I'm lucky to get on the site once. I've tried everything under the sun to attempt to solve this (even website unblockers- which I hate)... finally,
(i'm not holding my breath) I found this:

http://ntcanuck.com/

and sooo far I've had no problems..

I don't know how it works, but it just seems to.. good enuf for me. :}
