While man is making his mark on Mars, some humans are wondering if aliens have zoomed into Melbourne.A mysterious photograph has sparked a UFO frenzy in the city's north. Both believers and sceptics are scratching their heads over this picture, snapped in Beveridge by a council officer last week. Whittlesea Council is considering informing NASA and has already sent the image to Australian authorities. The photographer, Whittlesea Council traffic engineer, Roland Rozario said he could not explain the digital photo, which shows a small round object zooming through the top right side of the frame. Mr Rozario said he and a colleague were doing a routine audit of a railway level crossing about 2pm on Thursday, January 15. "We didn't see or hear anything when we were there," he said. "I took about 10 or 12 photos, facing east and west.
"Then I came back to the office, downloaded the images and noticed an object in one photo. "I still don't know what it is. I passed it around the office and people didn't know what it was. A few said it didn't look like a bird, an aircraft or even a bug in front of the camera."

Upon enlarging the photo to it's maximum and staring at it
for 10 minutes, I have decided that this is a helicopter. I have
detected a very faint seemingly rotation of blades above the craft.
These are my thoughts............

i think you will find that unless its a bitmap image or is using a lossless form of compression, you are going to get that sort of cut out artifact due to the compression methods used. (I think)

mmz is right, look at the difference in pixelation between the sky around the edges and the sky around the object, clearly a cut and paste job and not a particlarly good one at that

I dunno about that 'UFO' but I've always wondered, when the craft is there to be seen (clearly), how come people still missed it the first time around or snap the object right at the centre of thier photo. It's always like "I've never seen anything there before and after I washed my photos, there it is!!!"
Unless the flash on our cameras are able to penetrate 'thier' cloaking system.....

i'm pretty sure the pixelation is due to image compression

I cropped just the object enlarged it to 7" x 6" and then zoomed that.
There is ablsolutely nothing there! It looks to be a 'spray-job'.

A UFO with Hedges?
A lawn I could see, maybe even a tree or two, but hedges seem like they would flop around too much under high-g manuev....
OH, edges! That changes things a bit...
Being a tiny jpeg, it is impossible to zoom in too much, bathory is correct in his guess on the compression causing the pixelation, and apparent edges. That is what happens when you try to make an image smaller, it just can't keep all of the details of a full size digital image. If you could get a hold of the original photo, then you might have something to work with, but the low resolution stuff here just isn't going to help anyone.
It could be a helicopter, or a duck, or a plane...who knows...

Errr It's a very vague Flying Object. It also looks like a rain cloud.

if resizeing image then there wouldnt be thatkind of pixelation. ufo is added to the image. there are straight lines on that "added box" but ufo isnt just one cube. so if resizeing image lines are not straight.
I hope you understand.. my english is pretty bad

Actually, bathory is right, it is a result of the compression method being used. The sky is more or less the same color, reducing the pixilation made by the compression... but then in one part theres something completely different than the colour of the sky, and thats where the most pixilation occures.

Trust me, its compression.

how do you know if its insertion or compression?

Well, I work with images and compression and stuff like this quite a lot... you just somehow developpe an ability to tell if something can be the result of compression or not.
If I could see the real photo I would have an opinion, but until then.......

Found a larger pic of the ufo
HereTook it upon myself to take a cutout from the pic, here it is, the second image is the same, blown up using paint.

Nice job UA,
thought I'd have a go myself, certainly looks a lot clearer now. I guess the pic might be genuine.

it does stellar, either that, or it was travelling too fast for the camera
looks like a difficult photoshop job, if its that at all
I think its genuine, after putting it through a couple filters, and doing my best to examine the pic, it would be very hard to duplicate, in my opinion
