As a matter of reality I have been on nearly every dragon thread since I joined. Look into your history a bit more, if you are Christian, then you know that the history of your beliefs, is not exactly clean, it is Bloody, very Bloody, as is the Jewish faith and Islam, all have had their share of bloodletting in the form of war and religious persecution.
I sincerely doubt he believes the Popes of old to have owned or at least aligned themselves directly with Dragons, even if the Iconography is present throughout Judao-Christian Philosophy.
Germans being Bad, for not believing in Dragons news to my Eyes, remember to those not of Christian Faith the Dragon would have held a different meaning than to those who spread that particular Ideology. This rings true even today.
I never said that. I think you know I am very familiar with ancient mythology and religion. Every time Weregirl posts something here it amazes me how little from my posts she actually comprehends.
As I have demostrated, dragons were clearly regarded as heavenly creatures by ancient and medieval Christians. God rides on their backs in illuminated bibles, and it was believed heaenly dragons would be released to devour the wicked on judgement day. There was a Christian myth that stated a dragon near rome that killed many people was tamed by a Pope. I merely speculated that if this legend had a kernel of truth, it may be that a dragon (being heavenly creatures incluidng Yahweh) may have in fact been seen in Rome or near Rome on heavenly business with the chief leader of western Christianity.
Regarding dragons eating Germans, it is a fact that many of the most advanced ancient cultures had dragon gods and credited their technologies to their dragon teachers. However, more primitive cultures like Germans only seemed to regard dragons as evil monsters.
Therefore, a theory could be made, if the dragons are real, that they chose to educate cultures like the mesopotamians, chinese, mays, etc, all who had dragon gods AND advanced civilizations, whereas it seems they may have preyed on humans in primitive cultures where they did not share their knowledge. Why were Germans selected as prey? We can only speculate, but we do know that thier dairy based diet made them large and fatter than other peoples, and that the ancient German culture featured a great deal of drinking alcoholic beverages, as we read in Beowulf. Beowulf also suggests that meadhalles filled with fat, helplessly drunken, alcohol filled Germans may have been quite a delicacy to creatures who were notorious for their liking of alcoholic beverages as well.
This theory does explan why advanced cultures had dragon gods and primitive cultures feared dragons.
