Aberdeen Scotland - A Scottish woman who admitted to drinking 14 vodkas as she rang in the new millennium was awarded about $14,000 in damages after she fell from a bridge.

Helen Trueman, 62, sued the Aberdeenshire Council for damages after she tripped over a dilapidated fence, fracturing her spine.

Her lawyer had agreed $70,000 was a reasonable estimate for Truman's injuries. But Sheriff Kiernan McLernan ruled that Trueman, was 80 percent responsible for the accident, reducing her award to $14,000.

When asked about her alcoholic consumption, Trueman reportedly told the doctor treating her after the accident, "I lost count after the 14th vodka."

The next time you're in Scotland, search for something dilapidated and fall over it and sue.

I fall down all the time, drunk or sober; it doesn't matter. Um. Where's my money?

The fence should never have been delapidated, it was negligence.

However, so was the woman - but she fractured her spine throught the stupidity of negligence from the Council. Their fault, it was up to them to keep it maintained - if they had, she would never have been able to sue, drink or no drink.

Quick scenerio, I was stone cold sober and walking along the road, I went to step out into a side road, looked right and left, no traffic, great. Off I go..... now for some reason I happened to look down, only to see a drain cover (approx 1 foot x 1 foot) missing, a hole that, if I had stepped into it, would surely have broken my leg. This was in broad daylight, when, as I stated, I was sober. Imagine what this would have been like, had it been 1am and I was staggering home from a night out. The bloody drain cover was missing - granted I would have been drunk, but the missing cover would have been negligent and I could have broken my neck.

Give the woman her money, repair the bloody fence and they should ensure it is maintained, that way, they won't get sued again angry.gif

The payout being described in dollars confused me. Wouldn't she be paid in scottish ££££'s. That means someone out there thought the story was important enough that it warrented international conversion of the amount. So did they just change the £ sign or did they convert it. Is it $14,000 or £14,000. Very different figures.

Ahh found the story yeh twas converted was £7000 i am amazed how much international coverage there is of this

Another link more local

Sorry it jsut really confused me for a moment I am overtired grin2.gif
