What a crock of hos sh**, how could anyone proove such a thing? You die in your sleep because of heart attacks etc.
'Though come to think of it who knows'????

I've had dreams, where I'm just on the brink of dying, then I wake up.

1) I'm being chased by a pack of dogs including my own through the streets, I get down a hill, and they, well, eat me alive pretty much, they then leave me for dead. When I woke up I could still feel their teeth against my skin.

2) Me and my mates are at this entrance of a secluded forest in the middle of the night then this military vehicle pulls up and it's something to do with they need help/need to help us get out. After we get guns and equipment, they break us into squads. Me and a couple of other soldiers are making our way quietly, when we meet up with some enemy troops, the fight starts, then one ends up just feet away from me, I pull my trigger to shoot, but as guns work in some dreams, it didn't work. I woke up just after realising I was about to get shot.

I've heard that if you dream of falling and you hit the ground you could have a heart attack , but I guess it depends on the individual.

I don't think it's true. :s

Wow you do die a lot. Do you feel pain in your dreams? Because I remember that when I get shot in my dreams, I feel some pain. It would suck to experience suffocation and fire.

I thought it was interesting you mentioned the pain in dreams thing, I have had tons of dreams where I've felt pain and when I wake up i often find that the area i felt it in, really does hurt
The chronic pain a suffer from , from having many operations is the cause of this i'm sure.

I think it's pretty neat..or lets say different that pains you feel in your body, can actually infiltrate your dreams and your mind makes up some type of story to revolve around it.

Also on to topic, i was just reading this a few minutes ago, it was on a FAQ site about dreams.

And how people who actually die in their dreams, are those who are less afraid and more interested death, and those that fear it will either just wake up or some how wake themselves up.

"18. IS IT TRUE THAT IF YOU DIE IN YOUR DREAM, YOU WILL DIE IN REAL LIFE? Absolutely not. Many of us would be happy to share examples of dreams in which we clearly died. And I promise that I am, as of this writing, still alive to tell about it! =) Many people dream of falling, but wake up before hitting bottom. Perhaps our minds, even while asleep, have such a strong survival instinct that they often simply do not permit us to dream about the actual phenomenon of death. People who do dream their own death and live to tell about it may be more curious about death, so much so that their curiosity overcomes their natural fear of it."

What if someone is dreaming of having a heart attack, while actually having one in their sleep...
and they die ...?...often smells, emotions, feelings, illness, sensations, sounds, carry over into our dreams.

&

People can sometimes dream of having a medical condition before they are aware of having it, it's the bodies way of protection and warning system.

Our brains are extremely complex , but it's not always capable of flat out telling us if something is wrong with it, but it has many signs and symptoms of letting us know, and dreaming is one of those mechanisms.

If you can think of it, it's probably happened.
I can't see how we can die in our dreams other than having a conceptual representation of what we think death might be.
Can we dream that we are immortal and never die?

this isn't true for me, i have died plenty of times in my dreams. once i remember i got stabbed several times and i was trying to crawl somewhere, i was in a state of panic, i was bleeding and i couldn't breathe. I remember when i tried to scream I would just make a gargling sound and I remember all my energy ran out and I literally felt life draining from my being. It felt extremely weird and I finally gave out and I remember my head hitting the floor and I slowly breathed out my last breath. and I was dead. then it was like the whole dream restarted and i was given a second chance at the dream. but when i die in a dream it usually just goes to a different dream. I was having this conversation the other day... go figure

Okay, this thread isn't for you to proudly boast you've died in your dream, yet still live to post here. This thread is to discuss whether if one dies in one's dream, whether one dies in real life.

Okay?

Even if you did die in your dreams, how do you understand it to be anything other than a dreamt death, which could be a signal of change, just as some feel the Death card in the Major Arcana of the Tarot represents? Could you not have had more than one dream in the one sleep? Was it you dying or the dream? Have you died more than once in a sleep?

I think it comes back to symbolism. We have archetypal, linguistic concepts of both death and of dreaming so maybe we can dream of death, which could be the point at which our sleepiong consciousness forces us to wake from dreaming, perhaps because we fear too close a resemblance of what we think death actually is. Maybe life already knows. Maybe some who are dying can dream of a concept of life and bring themselves back from that point we see as the ultimate abyss, the cross point between having material awareness and being mere heat slumming it through the Universe. Oops, did I just define the waking hours of life? How often do we wake from dreams and extrapolate the missing pieces using imagination more than memory? How much do we that while awake?

The end trick, on a forum of living beings, is demonstration to satisfy another soul and it aint gonna happen. So we're left hoping that in true death we resolve into an understanding of the universe, the one that some of us crave. Hopefully. Please! Unfortunately the Universe seems more interested in the mass than the speck. Shutup and our another scotch!

I wonder how many posts on UM have come from sleep-posters?

Say what? The proud boasts of which you complain imply that the answer to the question is no. Not necessarily, anyway.

How else could (your interpretation of) the question possibly be answered?

Hmm, no I don't think if you dream you die that you truly die in real life. I've dreamt I've had sex with someone but really never had sex with that person. I guess it's the illusion and/or communications between the waking self and the subconscious self. Just because you dream you become a millionaire doesn't mean you wake up one. Maybe you need to look into how dreams are an extension of your waking self. I believe (I didn't look it up BUT I'm almost 99% sure) that dreaming of death, in any form, actually means re-birth or re-newal. You may want to look into that. I don't know. Just what came to mind for me.

Edit to add: I've never had a dream where I have died-- but I've had some that are like I've died and gone to heaven. (WICKED WOMAN) Muhahahaha!

There actually are a rare few who are so blissfully capable of extreme sleepwalking that they'll get up, get dressed, go out, meet someone and have a rampant quickie, but then don't fall asleep again. They just stop sleepwalking? Imagine waking after that and thinking, I didn't have sex with that person, I just dreamt it but then start wondering how the hell that clown got your number and could describe that mole on your thigh in such intimate detail!

Wow, it took 65 posts for death to become sex. Freud would be disappointed original.gif . The French even more so.

There's no such thing as staying on topic! Freud might be disappointed, if he was alive, but naughty numerologists might say 6 + 5 = 11 and 1 + 1 = Sex!

...:::*ArorA*:::...
A couple of versions of it in fact.
I've heard that if you a falling in your sleep and hit the ground then you die.
And also if some dead that you know give you their hand and if you take it, it’s a sign that death will come to you

The first statement was always the one I've heard, for over 40 years now. Still, last night I dreamed I was shot to death. In the dream, I came back as a ghost, yet was able to manipulate my Colt 1911 .45, and dispatch two of the three scoundrels that (in my dream) did me in. Actually, it was pretty darned fun!

But if I dream that I die and then I actually do die in that dream, or shortly thereafter in my sleep, why would anybody ever know? I obviously couldn't inform my survivors, for the simple reason that I'd be DEAD.

In fact, I had a nun way back in grade school who used to pull out exactly this scenario as a minor logic problem. As I recall it involved a man who dreamed that he was being guillotined during the French Revlution and then died as his cat laid a friendly paw across his neck.

I would have argued with that teacher. "How could we know?!" It's a paradox, I think I got on my teachers' nerves. grin2.gif

I remember hearing this when I was a kid. Or if you had a dream you were falling off a cliff and fell off the bed, it could kill you! They came up with all kinds of creative scenarios for this one. I can't really believe any of it though, I've had too many dreams about dying and they were all pretty pleasant. Started a thread about it here if you want to read about other's experiences dying in dreams.
punkmonkey123
How would they know what he was dreaming? XD
ParanormalMinds23
I wouldn't believe that because dreams really dont mean what you think they mean just because you die in a dream doesn't mean its going to happen it might just mean being reborn or new beginning of something going to happen or you could be seeing your future but doesn't always happen like that. dreams are just releasing things off your mind. but when you dream its all in weird ways everything means something but not exactly how it shows you. besides some dreams do come true.
trippingmaster
It could kill you, depends on your heart.
Some people's bodies can't handle the shock.
I have experienced hellish realities, and I'm ok.
Akadra
Not true, i have nightmare's all the time and i always wake up when i die, get hurt or any other meaning of pain.
juliasommers
I think it's false speculation. I've dreamt that I died before and I woke up to see otherwise.

The belief is an urban myth, and that's a fact.

Obviously It's not true one time I was struck with an axe in a dream and I'm alive. original.gif

A few days ago I dreamt I was killed by Freddy Krueger, so I guess its not true.
grither
If I dreamed about Freddy I would laugh at him since he's like a comedian lol.

Its in a film called 'stay alive' where if you die in the game you day for real. and each character gets picked off one by one quite a good movie.
SiriusTrouble
I have never died in my dreams. my brother told me about someone who died in his dream and then after he died. But He is still alive buggin the heck out of me every day. So i really dont believe if some one kills you in your dreams or if you die in your dreams you'll really die in real life. I think thats all made up.
Sweetsalem82103
I don't think its supposed to happen to all of us. It depends on their state of health and certain medical conditions. . .with the right mixes it wouldn't be too hard to believe that some people could die in their dreams and, in turn, die in real life. . .like I said earlier, we can't exactly ask them can we? lol.

But there were reports of some kids who had been complaining of something trying to kill them in their sleep and then one night they actually died. I don't know what the actual cause of death was, but its still pretty creepy. I think I read it in an article about where the idea from Freddy Kruger came from. . .I never bothered to look up the actual news reports or anything, so I don't know if its actually true or not.

Edit:
I had a dream not too long ago where my cat scratched me in the face and I woke up the next morning with cat scratches on my face. . .and yes, they were cat scratches. . .too close together to be from my fingernails (if I had any to begin with). . .and my cat was 1000 miles away (I was on vacation).

And I had a dream last night, in which I realized I was dreaming, and, at one point I jumped out a window, and I felt pain, but it was really dulled (obviously). . . but when I hit the ground I twisted my ankle (and it hurt a little). . .but I woke up this morning with the same ankle swollen up and hurting. . .

Of course, as many times as I've "died" in my dreams, I still haven't died in real life (obviously). . .but people with, say, a heart condition, might. . .

I heard this one as a kid. Anyone have any idea where it came from?

i've heard a theory a few times (which either isn't true or people just lie about their dreams)
but anyway the theory is that you can't dream your own death, maybe when people dream that they die, they're just near death or something,
or at least that'd be the case if this is true, i think it's true because it seems like every dream i've had of myself in danger, i wake up before anything too serious happens or the dream just stops and another begins.
ZombieHunter117
