Manalapan, N.J. - A substitute teacher was taught a valuable lesson after she was found drinking and intoxicated while teaching fourth grade students.

Mary J. Kaminski, 54, was arrested for drinking on the job while substituting at Pine Brook School.

Kaminski, who only worked part-time as a substitute, was actually retired and was certified as a teacher 21 years ago. She was fired by school officials and banned from the school premises.

Police say Kaminski was so drunk that she actually fell down in the classroom while she was teaching and had to be hospitalized.

Kaminski was charged with having "in her possession and under her control an alcoholic beverage while on school property," and "becoming highly intoxicated while performing the duties of a substitute teacher of a fourth grade class."

So a substitute being drunk whilst on the job is newsworthy? Or is it actually them getting caught that is amazing?

I don't know..... with the way a lot of kids act these days, I'm surprised more teachers aren't intoxicated...... tongue.gif

And before everyone jumps on me for ignoring the safety of the children, I totally agree that the action taken against her was appropriate. innocent.gif

I used to be friends with a middle school teacher who would get high before school every day. He came to me and told me he thought he might have a drug problem when he was in front of the classroom and forgot his lesson plan. He just stood there not knowing what to say. I've also known teachers who take alcohol to school in their coffee thermos. You would be surprised. Most teachers are crazy, alcholics, or drug addicts. And they can't get help for these problems without losing their teachers license.

Back in high school our Herbology teacher grew
pot in the schools greenhouse. Plus I had friends that
would go to school high or drink in the bathroom.

Kind of a blanket statement, "most teachers are crazy, alcholics, or drug addicts" What are your sources for that assertion. Like saying all law enforcement officers are bad because you know 1 who drinks on duty.
