user posted image rThe dramatic discovery of a mummified dinosaur complete with skin, ligaments and possibly some internal organs is to be featured on television. Dino Autopsy, National Geographic Channel The find of the fossilised duckbilled hadrosaur, nicknamed Dakota, was reported by the Sky News website last week. Now Dino Autopsy, on the National Geographic Channel, will investigate one of the most important dinosaur discoveries of all time. The find means that palaeontologists, who until now have been able to extract amazingly detailed information from not much more than teeth and bones, can add to their knowledge by studying a virtually intact dino mummy.Experts believe it could prove to be one of the most important dinosaur finds of all time, offering never-before-seen details of what the dinosaurs really looked like and how they lived. Virtually intact from head to toe, a one-in-a-million combination of conditions allowed this amazing specimen to become completely mummified. National Geographic uses a combination of CGI reconstructions and expert analysis in its documentary to provide a unique insight into how the dino mummy was discovered.

The programme also looks at the expertise and intricate technology used to obtain information about the dinosaur, and the sheer magnitude of the team's findings. This is the closest that palaeontologists have come yet to understanding dinosaurs.

this is going to be so cool ! From guesses about skin/hide in particular , we get a picture of what some actually looks like. I wonder how much of theory was spot on , How much wasn't and how much was close.

truely must see tv !

my husband and i have been waiting for this all week! It's gonna be awesome!

Curses my Comcast I don't have the NGC. I'll have to wait for the DVD.

Holy hell, there is no way to even define how much I'm looking forward to this.

I've been a dinosaur lover since I was a kid and I've always dreamed of something like this happening, some partially preserved dinosaur being found in the ice, a way to find out what they really looked like. About the only thing that could've made this even better would've been if they found a carnivorous dinosaur instead of a herbivore but that's just personal preference talkin'. wink2.gif

aaaaaaaawwwww as a former Comcast person I feel for you. I hated Comcast - too many QVC and religious channels. Not enough good ones. Plus very expensive.

I have Dish now ( about 1 and 1/2 years ) cost me the same but easily twice the stations ( most I don't watch , too many sports ) but twice the good ones !!!!

now all they need is a new TV land since this one is stinking -- Extreame Makeover ? Friday night movies? ( which wouldn't be bad it they were classic like 'It's a Mad ,Mad,Mad,Mad,Mad World'.) Gone are the Honeymooners and the Newhart Show.

it's life gone mad .Cheers and Designing Women aren't old enough to be classic !!!!

sorry ..........got carried away.

T minus 22 minutes and counting !

this could only happen to me. I fell asleep and missed it. lol gotta wait til the second viewing.

Glad I caught the show. Even though it wasn't really as revealing as I might've hoped, it was incredibly interesting to see just how much changed about our notions of the Hadrosaur's looks and movements from just a simple look at the tail muscles and scales.

It really does makes ya wonder just how far off we may be...

Overhyped and completely misleading.

National Geographic had a decent reputation..........until now.

First of all, to call it an "autopsy" is completely misrepresenting what they did. The general public is going to view, "autopsy" as the actual cutting into of dinosaur "flesh" to examine the interior.

I knew this was ridiculous before it even aired, but thought I'd at least take a look to see what was up.

Every single paleontologist on the planet has to be cringing right now.

Well yeah...exactly what I thought as soon as I saw the title of the thread a few days back...it's not like they're ever going to find a 150 million year old creature with nice squishy organs to poke around with. Hell, they can barely examine frozen barbarians they find.

well it shows that we're on the right track at least. now what I thought was rather logical , and I can't believe they didn't account for it was were the spinal column disks. lol it's like missing the forest because of the trees ! common sense !

hopefully they find a way to scan better. I wonder if a MRI can do it ? I also wonder if the production didn't want to wait on the investigation anymore , but to turn out a product before more was revealed.

Sweet!!

I can't wait to see the Catholic Church's reaction to this one. Any religion that's anti-science really. I mean come on, now they can't say that "god/the devil" planted dinosaur fossils to mislead us.. blah blah bullshiz... I really think it's so much fun to see science progress and whenever there is a significant discovery the church has to make up some bologna to explain it away. It's really quite hilarious to me. Now what can they say? It's more than just bones.. this shows that these animals actually lived..

I get so excited at times like this.. I wish I could see the look on the Pope's face when he hears about this one!
It'll look like this i bet: disgust.gif

I had no idea that either pope or the official catholic church ever claim that "god/devil" planted the dinosaur fossils

Contrary to what you believe, the overwhelming majority of the Christian faith don't refute either this finding, or the findings of any other dinosaur fossils, and don't refute their dating either.

The overwhelming Christian majority believe that the "dating" that is listed in the bible is based on God's terms.

And you can count me in as one of the majority. I don't rebuke claims of dinosaurs. When they are dated at 65 million years ago, I believe that is the truth.

RoYaLe
Yes, I should have been more clear. It's not the majority. And for the most part it's the very religious Bible belt folk who take the Bible literally, and perhaps the mormans. Then again the mormans believe that Jesus was born and lived in the United States.

For those people that do say the world is 6000 years old and scientists are just wrong, and things like this happen where they need to scurry to try to come up with some other story to explain it away, it just makes me smile.

I think using the word Catholic was not the best choice, although they have over the years changed around explinations of things to fit in with Science only after Science proves them. It's pretty funny how over the course of time people slowly take what the bible says less and less literally as truths about our Universe come to light.

But you're right it would be hasty to say that even half of the religious people out there believe this, because that wouldn't be accurate.
