I picked up the directors cut today, I liked it in the theatre and when I saw this version I liked it even more. While it doesn't add a whole half hour to the movie it does extend key scenes and adds a few things here and there to flesh out the movie more. At certain points early in the movie it shows these home videos Sam Loomis made during conversations and he is explaining about the masks in more detail these were the most important ones. I didn't care much for the over the top rape scene where the two guards go into michaels room and rape a girl infront of him which leads to his escape. It just seemed way out of place. The movie is dirty, the violence disturbing but when you watch this scene I think alot of people will agree. I liked his escape in the theatrical movie a whole lot better and it kept more in tone with the film. I also liked how the added more of the stalking scenes where they showed Michael kind of hunting the girls to find out where they live and their routines this wasn't in the theatrical version except for one scene. It was a bit like the original movie. In the theatrical he just kinda shows up most of the time. In this one he is more of a stalker instead of a normal slasher villain that pops up whenever.

All in all I liked the remake a whole lot better than the original which many consider to be a classic. While it scared the hell out of me when I was a kid it never bothered me much when I grew up. I like when horror movies can disturb me and make me feel a bit uncomfterable that is what Halloween 2007 does. Rob Zombies violence in his movies unlike most slashers isn't over the top and cartoonish he makes you feel uncomfterable about it.

The movie itself isn't a all out great movie but I think its still the best Halloween out there better than the first one and worth watching once or twice.

Malcolm McDowall was an excellent choice for Loomis in the new movie though..

I seen this movie when it came out and I thought it was pretty good, remakes like this which remain true to the characters and story etc are great because they increase interest amongst younger generation in classic cinema.

First of all a sequel is not a remake it is the continuation of the story.

Second of all this is by far the best remake of a movie yet, Rob Zombie did an excellent job with the movie so much so that for me it rivals the original movie Carpenter made...

Of course it's not the same as the original movie but it stayed true to the Michael Myers character which is the staple of the film... In regards to the story of the character (origins) this movie really expanded on how Myers evolved into the mute knife wielding killer.

It is obvious to me that you never saw both the original movie and it's remake cause if you did you wouldn't be trash talkin it.

I can't agree both movies are good but the original was revolutionary when it came out in very much the same manner that Night of the Living Dead or Psycho were. It reinvented horror movies for that generation in very much the same way that Saw did for this generation.... Yes I put Saw in the same league as the classics because it made itself unique. This new Halloween movie while good is just another slasher, it is great to see another good slasher flick again.

I was going to go see this movie in the theater but everyone told me that it was horrible so I didn't bother. I rented it tonight and I have to agree, it was pretty horrible. The Myer's were never depicted as white trash, like they were in this remake, and Michael was a normal boy until that Halloween when he snapped, and if I recall he never spoke again. I immediately disliked Lori from her first scene, where she goes on driving her finger in and out of a donut making sexual sounds to her mother, (How can you identify with a character like that?) I disliked the fact that Michael was portrayed as being 9 feet tall, and also the fact that the cheerleader didn't notice that her "boyfriend" was about 2 feet taller when he came back with the sheet over his head. Throughout the Halloween franchise Michael's been a knife wielder in this one he seemed to prefer thrashing and throttling his victims, (very out of character for the stealthy killer hes always portrayed as.) The death of Dr. Loomis was blasphemous to the original story, (he was the one to dispatch Michael in the original.) I also have to say, what is the deal with the uncontrolled whimpering when Lori is being chased through the Myer's house? Someone is out to kill you if they find you and you can't keep quiet? Even if your life depended on it? I do however agree about the rape scene it was quite pointless and deluded. I want my 2 hours back disgust.gif

If I had some big dude chasing me that killed all my friends I'd probably be whimpering to. You can't really say how you would act in a certain situation though until you're put into it.

fair enough, but she wasn't actually in that situation, ony acting.. very poor acting. In reality insticnt would silence most.
