Recently (today infact) my friend offered me to partake in his latest hobby, geocacheing. For those who have never heard of it, it is kind of like treasure hunting. People leave descriptions (usually coordinates) to the location of certain boxes or tubs to be found by fellow enthusiasts. Once the box has been found, you place a trinket in the box (and take one out if you wish) and fill in a logbook of the things you have or left. I thought it would be really boring, but it turns out it was quite an adventure. The caches were placed in much more difficult places than we had first thought, so it turned more into a game of chance towards the end. I was just wondering if anyone else has ever heard of this hobby, or actually does it. We plan to do a few more trips in the summer when it is lighter for longer. Anyway, the site is www.geocaching.com for those who are looking for more information. Personally, I highly reccommend it, although go with a team like we did rather than on your own.

I'm a geocacher! We use billion dollar satellites to find tupperware in the woods. wink2.gif

It's great fun.

We just hit out third cache today! We got a tracker bug which my friend hid from me and I think I gave myself a concussion, but all aside, it was a fun day. As previously said I'd highly reccommend it.

If any of you fellow geocachers know where my travel bug went please grab it and send it on its way. I hate bug theft.

Apparently, from what I understand, Geocaching got started right here in my little old home town... Redmond WA... it must be the unnaturally high density of GEEKS around here.

LOL, I did go Geocaching a few times some 7 or so years ago. It was a hoot! And a really good excuse to get out and go hiking with a goal and purpose... no matter how silly the purpose. As goofy as it is, it's a great deal of fun! Nothing like uncovering a plastic box filled with Hello Kitty Stickers or post cards of the Eiffel Tower!

If I had a GPS, I'd probably do it more. LOL. I can't believe I just said that. LOL.

That sounds like a hoot! I wonder if I could talk my daughter's school into doing that for a fieldtrip, I'd set it up for them if they would do it!
