user posted image rPoland plans to open its first exorcism center, for those who believe they are possessed by the devil, in the town of Poczernin 30 km (18 miles) from the city of Szczeczin, Polish media said Wednesday. Andrzej Trojanowski, a Catholic priest working in the city says the center will be equipped with a chapel and will have a psychiatrist on hand. Trojanowski said there was a demand for the service as he deals with up to 20 people a week allegedly possessed by the devil. The center was the idea of the Catholic Church in Poland, which already has around 50 working exorcists, and the project is expected to provide spiritual help and guidance to the needy. According to priests their service is popular with visitors from Germany, which has no working exorcists. Many consider those who claim to be possessed are just mentally ill, whereas others contend that those diagnosed with psychiatric illnesses are really possessed by the devil.

The practice of exorcism by priests and clergy became very popular in the 1970s, which coincided with the 1973 release of the world-wide blockbuster movie The Exorcist.

Not really. If we build churches mosques etc to agree with people's beliefs, then this is no different. A building to agree with people who think they are possessed.

i had no idea that poland had such a problem with demon possessions . . . . . . whatever. seems as though they must have the highest concentration of demons of anywhere in the world. not where you wanna live, huh no.gif

But it plays on peoples beliefs which it should not.

Building something like that will only strengthen peoples belief that demons may exist which will scare them. What if someone is suffering from a illness thinking they are possessed and they turn to those sorts of buildings for help instead of medical treatment.

Maybe in that case they will think that the demon has been exorcised and therefore they will be cured.

Wonder if they've opened a new cemetary next door. Some place for them to bury all the people who will die there from malnutrition and self-inflicted injuries. Guess anything that goes on in there will just be blamed on demons? convenient

But if they have some serious illness and they go there and believe they have been cured they will still have that illness. sad.gif

This sort of thing should have died out with the dark ages.

Can you prove Demons do not exist ?. No one can prove aliens exist either, however, there are many government groups and sections dedicated to investigating these claims and searching space for life. Might as well close those down too.

You are right there are many government groups dedicated to investigating and searching for life in space.

This centre is different from that.

This center makes out that demons are real and that they do posses people and that they are there to fix the problem.

So does your non belief in Demonic origins automatically cancel this building ?. I don't believe the world was created the way Ron Hubbard explains it, however it does not discount the entire Church of Scientology. Everyone is entitled to there beliefs, and if speaking to a spiritual advisor such as an exorcist puts there mind at ease, why take this away from people. If you don't believe in the possibility of physical possession / domination of an individual, consider this building to simply be an institution of psychology.

Wow. Maybe they'll expand to witch burning in the next few years...

If demons were identified and proved to be real then sure make those buildings but at the moment it is just pure belief that demons exist so making a building to get rid of those supposed demons is just playing on that belief.

The same can be said about any church in the world, or place of worship. Perhaps creating such a building will bring attention to the phenomenon and raise a few eyebrows. It's much like any scientific or medical institution that is created to find a new antidote, or to explain a new " theory ".

This reminded me of the end of Andy Kaufmans life.
