That game that still freaks me out today is the original Silent Hill. That game has such great atmosphere and all the noises that it throws at you it really messes with your mind. The level that is scary for me to play through still to this day is the school level it has you searching through dark corridors with these ghosts that chirp at you and monsters. Then you find a phone and your daughter calls you on it. It's the stuff of nightmares! the next two games are good but not that scary and Silent Hill 4: The room is my least favorite to play infact I pretend it doesn't even exist.

Play Fatal Frame 1 or 2 in the dark with the volume up alone.

Most horror games scare the $h!+ out of me I just get sucked into the atmosphere and actually believe some scary bad guy is after me. I still can't play them in the dark for too long before I give up and go to bed, I usually just play and beat them during the day. the most recent one I played was RE4 I couldn't even get through the first village playing it at night.

If Silent Hill scares you then play Fatal Frame 1 and 2 in the dark with the volume up and alone.

Didn't a kid kill himself after playing that?
Super Pancake
Really? The game made me pee a little but no where near the level of taking my life.

Silent hill but i never wanted to play Fatal frame..
Crovus v2.0
I gotta admit... Doom 3 in the dark with headphones on, freaked me out... At least until I got the chainsaw...after that I started giggling like a school girl for the rest of the game...(and chainsawing just about everything I saw...)

Eh, games don't really freak me out. OH. But F.E.A.R. Did for the first few levels too! Then I started to know when the creepy stuff was going to happen...kinda lost the fear factor after that.

I've heard so many great things about Fatal Frame. Why, oh why haven't i played it yet!?
Steph's "to do" list:
Buy fatal frame.
Keep extra pair of underwear handy. tongue.gif

i really enjoyed Silent Hill 2. I accidentally found an easter egg in one of the bathrooms. The volume was turned up high and there was a loud bang. Scared the crap out of me! lol Instead of investigating, I ran out of the room! laugh.gif

The first two Silent Hills are still some of the scariest games around, especially the first one. The first Fatal Frame game was terrifying for me, actually. I haven't played it in a long time. I never played enough of the second one to get a good feel for it. I never played the 3rd one at all. The old RE games haven't scared me for years. RE4 didn't even really try to be scary, so that doesn't count. REmake is still scary as hell, however. Alone in the Dark 4 is still pretty damn scary, especially the noises the zombies make when you're in the lab farther into the game. I'm hoping the 5th game ends up being as good. Doom 3 is decently creepy. There are a lot of things jumping out at you, but it gets old after awhile. ObsCure for PS2 has it's scary moments, too. There is actually a sequel in the works. It's scheduled to come out Spring I think. The Suffering games were kind of scary, too. The first one is more full of actual scares, where as the second one is just downright disturbing, i.e. walking into the room just after the guy commits suicide by blowing his face off with a shotgun.

I also can't understand how so many people find F.E.AR. to be scary. It is truly a great game, but that ghost girl concept has been done in so many movies (terrible ones, at that), and it wasn't a scary theme to begin with. It just did not work in the game. But, on the new expansion, Perseus Mandate, I was actually surprised at how creepy that whole underground section was. It had me on edge for pretty much the whole thing.

^Oh yeah, that's was scary for me also. It scared my mom when I show showed her that easter egg.

The game that freak me out is Silent Hill Origins. This was the first Silent Hill game to scare me. I own the other 4 games, but Origins takes the cake for freaking me out.
sub_x0ne
Silent Hill and the first 3 Resident Evil games for sure. Playing Resident Evil 2 when I was 12 years old was a bad idea. So many sleepless nights.
Super Pancake
Stalker is creepy as hell for those with a good enough PC to run it.
~Cheese~
I LOVE DOOM 3!! I USED TO PLAY IT EVERYDAY ON MY OLD PC
TAISET
the suffering and the suffering ties that bind freaked me out quite a bit

Lol that game looked weird,, but Clock tower was a puzzling game.

There was one moment, well, two moments, in F.E.AR. that scared me. The first one was when you first see the little girl, with the exploding hallway and stuff. The second one was when you were going down a hallway, you have to go down a ladder, and when you turn around, she's there.
But the game that really scared me was the first Silent Hill. In fact, I remember that I was so scared that I turned off the TV because I couldn't take it anymore. Yeah, you can call me a wuss. tongue.gif

Well no game has really scared me however Eternal Darkness did freak me out a bit, the screaming, beating hearts, ticking clocks created such an awesome atmosphere and played on your nerves. Such a great game. thumbsup.gif
Briggles
Clive Barker's Jericho, though the game is over all lacking any read depth, i played it for the first time at night, hung over to death and i'm always edgy when i have a hang over so this game did scare me quite a bit. That and FEAR was pretty good. Has any one played that new RE game for the WII yet? Its not scary but its well better than i thought it would be.

Horror games terrify me, Evil dead on Dreamcast made me pee a bit.

The only game thats ever freaked me out was Aliens Vs Predator... part 1 though not really part 2. And only if you went Marines and wore headphones, it was pretty freaky with all the sounds, and the aliens moved really fast and you got lots of them. So it was quite a frantic game and the face huggers just topped it off. Thats what would make me rip my headphones off from fear. lol. Especially when you didnt really expect it.. so face huggers were the freakest imo. Pretty cool.. I wish theyd make a dx10 version.

Mario, a plumbers life is extremely frustrating

Ok here is a game that scared me when I was younger and it was one I forgot about until two days ago. I had it on the Amiga and it was called the Uninvited. It was a point and click adventure game where you and your sister are driving along in a car, you wrech and when you wake up your sister is gone so you go into this big mansion to find her. The game has great atmosphere and is quite disturbing to play through and it was very easy to die, alot of one death kills. This game was very unnerving to play through.

Another game that scared me was the infocom classic the Lurking horror where you are a college student and there are all kinds of passageways and stuff under the campus. All the sounds and noises this game makes and the moaning scared the hell out of me and kept me up at night when I used to play this game.

Try playing clocktower for ps2 at 1 in the morning while drunk on airplane martinis(the things are like moonshine) and suffering from intense jetlag. its what i imagine hell to be.

Resident Evil, "yeah dont laugh".

I just couldnt handle the fact that a Zombie dog, crawling on all fours beast, crow, person thingy was gunna get me. I got to the point where I handed the joystick over to my man coz I ended up wanting to hit the TV with it and crack that crusty Zombie right up the side o his stinky, pussfull, flesh head. "EWWWWWWWWWWWWWW"

My kids like Medievil but they freak out at the close up of his gooley eyeball. lol

007 on the Nintendo made me soooo dizzy trying to play it.
I'll stick with my car racing, kick ya'll ***'s Rally, Super cars, etc.

V8's rock.

It was RE2 that got me into gaming. From there i have followed the Silent Hill series. SH 1&2 are the creepiest.
But there is really only 1 game that has actually caused me to have nightmares; it would be none other than 'SIREN'.
I was in my late 20's and actually had to STOP playing that game. The nightmares just became to frequent.
Seems like i even read somewhere that SIREN was banned in Japan for that very reason. (to many kids having nightmares) But don't quote me on that.

Still Life on X-box creeped me out

I bought my brother Bioshock for Christmas and it seemed pretty freaky when I was watching him play it. I'm sure if I tried it at night alone I'd get a little jittery. And when Doom 3 came out I was watching my buddy play it at a LAN center and he was shaking lol. Always fun to watch others piss themselves over video games... especially in a public place. original.gif
Super Pancake
Bioshock is creepy in the beginning then just becomes meh on horror.
Shakezulah
Yeah, after the Medical Pavilion, BioShock stops really trying to be creepy, with the exception of a few parts. I don't really consider it a horror game anyways.

Siren was pretty scary, but that doesn't change the fact that the game just isn't that good. I bought it probably close to 2 years ago, if not longer, and I've played it once...only for about 30 mins or so. I got to the 3rd level, and just had to stop playing because it was so damn frustrating and unclear on what it wanted you to do exactly. The gameplay is built around trial-and-error, which is not that fun with games like this. The only reason I haven't sold it is because I'd like to go back to it someday and try to actually beat it.

Also, this game has the most stupid facial animation I've ever seen. The way they just took photos and pasted them over the character models looked aweful...all their faces were flat, lol. The fact that every character was Japanese but all had British accents didn't help either.

Severance Blade of Darkness is a great game, very underated and creeped me out with scary AI demon knights , forbidding settings and hair raising music score

Yeah, actually I said that with the beginning of the game in mind. Now that I think back, I think it was scary in the beginning because the environment is pretty unfamiliar and the game is based in some imagined sadistic/revolutionary/"future" world atmosphere. Once you learn how things work, it's more of an RPG/first-person shooter...

I haven't even played yet, but I was entertained enough to watch for a few hours.

I never really played too many of the "scary" games, have only seen friends play them... I normally like first-person shooters like counter-strike, and I used to like rpgs like diablo 2 or morrow wind... i've recently started to get into Forza Motorsport 2 on the 360, although I was never huge on racing games. I think it's just that I enjoy racing to earn money and buy/upgrade real cars. Most aspects of the game make it seem like I'm experiencing what it's really like to drive these exotic cars and even ones in my future price range. Not to mention, it's fun to go fast.... grin2.gif

Ok, I derailed hard right there, my apologies.

The Resident Evil games sometimes startled me when I'd watch my friend play at night.

Manhunt 2. The original Manhunt is cool, but the second one is really freaky. The amount of gore (blown-up heads, burnt people, crushing people, etc.), the whole mind control thing, and the strange endings that take place in a sort of "dream world."

ooh.. I'm loading that right now to have a suss again.. That game was pretty gory back in its day. It was one of my favorites. Good old Codemasters.

I have heaps of old games that I load on my pc for my son to play. He loves them. It's funny stuff watching him play games too.. Like we play Crysis for example and instead of always shooting badies.. we run around picking up chickens/ducks and just running through the jungle with them. lol. It's funny cause you see the chicken looking around as your running with it. Ahh thats cute and not really freaky.. the graphics are amazing though.. In a certain place at the very start you can swim out to sea towards the boats, and there is a place where you can just swim really deep down in the ocean, which freaks me out alittle.

Oh man i heard that! I'm currently playing that one.
The deeper you go into it the more graphic and disturbing it gets.
Right now I'm still trying to get out the back lot of the TV station. Bizzare stuff.
