Tamil Bhrami Script Found in Egypt

How the pottery ended up in Egypt is a Mystery.
Either The ancient Tamilians used to sail all way upto Egypt or The Ancient Egyptians sailed all way upto Ancient Tamil Kingdoms.

Tahe your guess!

Most Studies have shown that though the Egyptians had naval capabilities, they were coast hugging sailors sailing up and down along the coast only.

But records show that Ancient tamil Kingdoms had a rich maritime history. Ancient greece & Rome had trading ports in Ancient tamil nadu.

I don't see why they couldn't have had contact. They aren't far away from each other.

If it was the Egyptians who used to sail all way upto ancient tmail nadu and had trade with the tamil kingdoms...............there are objections from the establishment!
The established authorities on Egyptian civilization wont agree that the egyptians sailed across the seas.

current view is that the ancient egyptians were coast hugging sailors, sailing up n down the coast of africa and also across to the middle east areas.

Great article.

It always strikes me as strange that historians are so surprised to find evidence of ancient trade routes. Weren't the miners of ancient Cornwall ( the Dumnonii ) trading tin all over the Mediterranean in 1600 BC? They've found Tamil Brahmi artifacts in Thailand for Pete's sake.

I'm aware that I may not understand the article (I'm definitely not an archaeologist or anything) but it seems like the surprise this find has generated is partly motivated by a belief in some artificial boundary between East and West. As if Eurasia had a giant wall separating European cultures from "the Orient". If India traded with Thailand to the east why wouldn't they trade with Egypt to the west? When I look at a map the distances seem about the same and in both cases they'd be traveling along a coastline most of the way.

It is more dangerous to hug the coasts in a small vessel than to sail the open seas. The coasts anywhere tend to have rocks and tidal currents affected by proximity to land, whereas the sea is generally calmer.

Since, i dont want to open another topic on a similar stuff, here it is..

Did Ancient Egyptians have trade links with ancient Spain or the Area now known as Spain?

QUOTE
Egyptian mummies may be more international than previously thought, as analysis of one such mummy in the Brooklyn Museum's collection has revealed a surprising connection to Spain.

The mummy, named "Demetrios," turns out to have been wrapped in linen that was decorated with red pigment containing lead that originated in Spain, according to the museum.

"We now think the ancient Egyptians made very specific material choices for mummy preparation," Lisa Bruno, the museum's lead object conservator, told Discovery News.

So? Did the Ancient Egyptians trade with Ancient Spain Also???

There is no need to presume direct contact between ancient civilisations on the basis of trade goods from one being found at a locale of the other. There were probably intermediaries in any trading taking place across the ancient world, trading which I expect was widespread.

If i am Ancient Egyptian and an intermediatory trading nation brings some resources/trade material from another place, wouldnt i be interested in knowing more about that place?
after all, nations are built on trade also and cutting out the intermediatory produces profits!
If i am interested, i would naturally have anexpedition to this place mentioned by the traders! thus contact!

just speculation!

Vermie,

The article you linked mentioned that the artifact dates from the first century B.C.

Contacts between Egypt and India are well documented in this era.

Ever heard of Alexander the Great?
