LAKE WORTH, Fla. -- A Florida couple could be having an extra happy new year after finding a rare purple pearl while eating a plate of steamed clams.

George and Leslie Brock stopped into Dave's Last Resort & Raw Bar on Friday during a day at the beach. George Brock was about halfway through a dozen clams when he chomped down on something hard -- a rare iridescent purple pearl.

At least one expert said the find could be worth thousands.

"Few are round and few are a lovely color, so this is rare," said Vermont gemologist Antoinette Matlins.

Thats very something I haven't heard about purple pearl before. I guess some point of time things turns up and make millions. Yet again they probably kept it or they sell it to biggest bider and have their life's set for life time.

I wish they ahd a picture of it, actually. I've seen pink and black pearls, but never purple.

Pearls come in all different colors, pink, green, brown, gold, black, peacock, ivory, and yes, purple.

What's odd about this one is that it's from a clam not an oyster, purple pearls are available, then tend to lean a little toward lilac or even mauve. Clam pearls aren't typically traded in the gemstone market, they're that rare.

I saw a picture of this clam pearl, it's a definitely lilac to mauve-ish color.

am picturing that the bar is offering them a lifetime free eat all you can if they gave them the pearl.
