Den Haag - Thousands of Dutch nationals are due to celebrate the new year by diving into the North Sea on Tuesday.

The biggest traditional New Year's Eve dive event, organised by food company Unox, takes place at midnight at the beach of Scheveningen, near The Hague, with 10,000 participants.

Other New Year's Eve dives are expected at the island of Vlieland, Zandvoort and Katwijk.

The present temperature of the North Sea water is six degrees Celsius, (42.8 F). On Tuesday, the air temperature near the coast will be four degrees Celsius, (39.2 F).
