Okay, I saw an episode of Pokémon once.. -cough- And it was about a stone statue at the end of a cliff, where a girl had waited for her lover while he was out at war, but he never returned. She kept waiting though, and turned to stone. Is there a name of this legend?
(PS: Sorry if it's not Urban -wince-)
m. Moe

There are standing stones in the UK and Eire that have the legend attached.

I wouldn't know a Pokemon if they poked me in the eye, but the turned to stone story may have been inspired by Medusa?

yes theres an actual legend like that
I remember my mother told me about that story, it was passed on from ancient chinese generations to generations.
If you are cantonese, try to sound the title out
its called "Mon Fu Seck"
aka "Wishing Husband Stone" literally.

Although i,ve never heard of this legend, there is a very real medical condition the name of which i can,t remember. It,s rare but somehow i think it begins in the bones and then the muscles calsify and eventually the person turns hard as stone, and in a very real sense these people turn to stone and of course die! My mom took care of a boy who had the disease years ago when she was still a nurse, she said he was a sweet kid and it broke her heart to watch as this disease took all his movements, speach and he finally died!
Angel Proof
yes i have heard of a legend like that but on the other half there is a spider that can make this happen to you if bitten by it thus killing you innocent.gif

Ok, raise your hand if you can't understand this post either.

Snaps for DP for making me utterly confused.

But I have certainly heard of both this legend, and seen the episode of Pokemon *shamefully nods*
Although, the version which I was told was in Bangladesh, where a supposed lover never retuned.

I would think that it would be a rather common one, though. It has all the classic 'hooks'.

I love how everyone here is so quick to make out that they don't like or watch Pokemon, but you all just happened to see this single episode. tongue.gif

yeah.. its a genetic condition where the muscles and soft tissues turn into bone. it happens when tissues are damaged, and when healing the tissue 'ossifies' and turns into bone.
its called fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva (FOP) and is incurable

-Anna-
Aw, that episode of Pokemon stood out in my memories so much as a kid. I loved that story. =]

Oooo. That disease is called Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva (Or, FOP for short.)

And there's another one with a similar name, which makes the kid (usually male) die before they're 30. Sad disease. =[
