Just recieved a message from a member called saurabhprakash...message reads
"hi sep,
u to seem to be an unexplained heck of
mystery like me.if u wish u can contact me for something which is
[B]very exciting
good luck
saurabh"
Anyone else get a message from this account? Given how random it seems to be thrown together, I think it might be a bot or something

Jan 30 2004, 04:44 AM
hmm...if it IS an actual member, could they please send me another message making it a bit clearer what they heck they're saying?

I'm a little cautious about replying, just incase it is a bot, and is planning on sending me something nasty through my comp if I reply

Why don't you check the member directory and see if this person exists?
They might have filled in some of their personal details, perhaps they are from another country and english is their second/third language.

I had considered that possibility

But they sent the message almost in the moment they registered, haven't posted once, and don't have any personal details in their profile at all...
...the Sera One thinks she'll ignore it also

Good idea.
It is probably someone just trying to freak you out.
I think that all members should have to fill in their details before they are allowed to send messages, especially ones that are so cryptic.

There wouldn't be any way to determine the validity of the information they provided if it were a requirement, so what would be the point?
You do have the option to block IM's from any member, just go to your control panel and choose the 'block member' function. If any member receives unwelcome, obscene and/or unsolicited IM's from another member, please inform SaRuMaN or a moderator immediately so proper steps can be taken.

I could be wrong.......please correct me if I am.........but no one can infect
your computer through the PM mode. Just don't send a regular email response.

Oh, I didn't think of that.
I see what you mean, I appologise for being a nit

But the fact that they've filled in information would at least indicate the account belongs to an actual person

I agree...however, if I were to reply, it might confirm the existance of the email on my profile to the program, and send something there, in the same that interacting with junk mail does

I have not received anything like this. I would not worry too much, just ignore it. Looks like someone is flirting with you, maybe trying their luck? More than likely just being stupid. I am sure you have but have you informed Saruman or one of the mods?

I had a strange message from someone here not long after I joined ... and I can't remember the name of the person... I just know he was blocked by a Mod for a very distasteful post.

judging by the member name it sounds like the person could be indian or arabic in ethnicity, so I think dreamrebel may be right in saying no command of the english language.
