Hoarfrost would turn the scenery of dreams into an ultimate divine beauty. The snow spirits turned the countryside into a rich blend of white, blue and silver that would sparkle so bright it would hurt your eyes to look at. But no matter how much the suns glare off the snow and ice hurt, you would still stare in a trance, captivated by its haunting beauty. Although the temperature was below freezing the air felt like summer and you could still smell the pine from the trees. You would get called inside at around 6 or 7 at night and enjoy a nice warm drink, be it cocoa or an herbal tea to warm you up after a long day. You would wake up the next morning to find the snow somewhat melted and birds who had gone south for winter returning. With the wood and muskeg wet, the smells of the forest came. Green grass sprung up in places along the hillsides giving the earth a patchy appearance. The snow melted more and the forest returned to full life. The night always erupted into a beautiful cacophony of orchestrated animal cries, nightingale songs, occasional owl hoots and bugs buzzing around windows. When summer came it was humid but not too hot. The sun burned hot in the sky and the full moon glowed in its full glory. The rainstorms were monstrous yet wondrous as the fierce wind that carried them blew through the fields whipping the wheat stalks wildly. The rain always arrived just when you thought it was never going to come. It was awesome to feel the full brunt force of the storm when it arrived to make the earth fertile again. And after the rains if there was dry wood a bonfire would be started and maybe if you were lucky a firework would get set off. Eating marshmallows and hotdogs were the staples around the great fire. When the rains stopped coming the leaves started to change colours and then fall to the ground. It got a little bit colder so you would have to wear heavier coats. The leave would be raked and then following a raking you absolutely HAD to dive into the neat piles of leaves solely to aggravate your parents. It then got colder as the months ahead approached. All the animals and bugs flew away, died or went into hibernation. A month or so later you woke up to find it snowed, the hoarfrost had returned and the cycle begins again.
