Everyone:

-- I haven't posted on here for a long time but I just wanted to ask if any one has converted into any new religions yet? I've been going to church lately and noticed a few things at first. I remember one time was when I was sitting in church and smelt the smell of something burnt. It lasted for a few seconds or maybe even a minute, and I turned to see if any one noticed but no one said anything. While my by and I were driving home, I smelt the same exact burning smell in the car and he didn't seem to notice either.

-- I've been having nightmares lately and was hesitant to sleep last night but I didn't wake up to anything scary today so I feel better. Does any one know if any strange things happen while converting to different or new faiths?

I think you might be just getting a little paranoid. I don't think you have anything to panic about.

Not even sure if this is the right forum for this.

Not sure if converting religions was the cause but a buring rubbery smell or perfume is known to be associated with something trying to manifest itself . If you have any deceased relatives that may be against you doing it , they could be trying to contact you , so that could be a possibility . If you smelt it in your car also , then its a good chance . This may sound a little off , but if it smells like burning popcorn , depending on your age , that is linked to strokes .

Get checked by a doctor the smell of burning has been linked to allergies and epilepsy original.gif

maybe your sub-concious is against you switching religions and it is the smell of either Hell capturing you or you escaping the clutches of hell. not literally, just in your own mind deep deep down....

on a side note I used to do drugs and now when i am doing something that I know I should be thinking twice about doing i get the taste and smell of meth, it kinda signals me to take a step back and evaluate myself.

I honestly dont think getting different smells means anything, as far as religion goes. As long as nothing paranormal is going on, and you are attending Church, just ignore smells. Sometimes its allergies, and the odor can be strong but its from an outide environmental source. JN

Smelling burning usually of burnt toast can be a sign of brain abnomilties... should be checked out!

I agree with the above but would add that it's been my observation that in general people of Christian/Catholic faith (and the variations) tend to have much more ghost experiences than other faiths such as Jews or Muslims.

I agree with the others, please consider going to be checked by a doctor.
One of the first questions a doctor asked my Mom when she was diagnosed with a brain tumor was if she had been smelling burning odors.

Nightmares can be caused from medical problems too.

Just my opinion.

If that is so, (I tend to agree with you, of course, but I don't know very many Jews or Muslims or insert non-christian religion here, sad to say) why do you think the Christian religions experience more ghostly activity?

I think it's because so much of the faith is based on the concept of G-d/Jesus verses the devil/satan/demons and the saving of your soul from evil for G-d/Jesus. Thus the idea of supernatural happenings (not that I think the paranormal is supernatural) is planeted early in life and nurtured over time.

One thing you should do is document the occurrences. Mark down the date, time and location. If it is medical that will help the doctor determine potential causes. If it isn't medical the notes may help you determine what it is, perhaps you will notice a pattern to it.

Well thank you all for responding. And as for seeking medical attention, I'm not so sure that I need it but just to be on the safe side, I'll definitely consider it. I really haven't smelt that scent or sensed anything similar to it recently, and it was just only that day. I'm at the age of (21), fairly young, and I don't know or hold any record of any health problems (at least not yet) and it definitely doesn't indicate however that I couldn't have developed health complications right now that I'm not aware of.

As for the scent or what kind of smell it was like , it smelt a lot like burnt batteries (?) Does any one know what I'm talking about here? Or do I just sound really off already... Well, it was that same smell and I remembered clearly thinking to myself that it smelt like burnt batteries.

TRPS-TECH1: I caught on to your response quickly. You see, I was born into a Daoist/Taoist family. And as we know, Taoism is considered to be one of the most mystical and or mysterious forms of religion(s) in this world. The religion highly consists of worshiping our ancestors, making offerings and ceremonies to our ancestors (so that they will be able to obtain the same things or other things they couldn't have in their previous life). It occurred to me several times that perhaps the gods or my "ancestors" are trying to reach to me and are most likely saddened, hurt, or offended that I am changing my ways of faith (I will no longer praise them). But as a Christian, its almost condemned to believe in such things, it seems.

Yes, it is the smell of sulfur. That is the smell of hell. Don't let others put you off. Satan is real and he hates losing even one soul. There is a battle going on in heaven for your soul and that is what you are smelling. Be of good cheer and don't be put off. The Lord is stronger than the adversary and He will win for you. Just believe and let Jesus save you. The gift of salvation is free, just choose Jesus and he'll give you that gift through the faith you receive from Him. I know this all sounds old school-old fashioned, well it is. But it is true though. Don't be put off by the Devil's trickery. Jesus has the answer for everything. Just believe. Once you have believed you are saved and nothing can stop you from being Heaven-bound when you die. Once saved, always saved.

Could it be that you are simply smelling things burning, like the numerous candles, incense, etc. thats burned in a church? Sometimes odors that you are sensitive to can trigger memories or feelings too. The fact thatyou smell it in your car could just be that a remnant of the odor stayed on your close or in your nose.

Thank you MasterPo. thumbsup.gif I agree, but don't most religions have some sort of good vs. evil thing going on?

It's beginning to come clear to me now. I just had a dream of mine interpreted through a Christian based site, and I think what you just said to me there is true. The devil does exist and I haven't been acting funny for no reason...How will I know this is all over?

Nope, there aren't any lit candles in the church that I attend, at least none that I know of ( I don't even think theres even any on display either). And when it comes to smelling stuff, I can pick up just about anything, I mean my senses are really strong. This smell just came about out of no where...it didn't blow through the room, or pass by, it came right out of nowhere, like it slowly snuck up right beside me or something. It lasted for maybe almost a minute. And then, I smelt the same exact thing in the car.... trust me, I was the ONLY one who smelt it. I turned around, gazed at every one to see if they noticed anything in the air..and it was just me. And I'm certain that my bf would've said something as well; especially being in the car.

Any how, thank you all for trying to direct me here. But as for now, I realize that I am caught between a battle of religions and faith. Please just keep your prayers with me and hope that God helps me win this battle. Thank you all for listening. God Bless. And lastly, thank you all for not thinking that I was crazy, lol =)

Now that just sucks! Do you mean that I'd have to start eating dead pig if I want to start seeing ghosts!?!

Heh-heh! Actually, I know what you're getting at, I just couldn't resist the oppertunity to twist the knife a little!

Of course, the Muslim faith is also pretty big on the whole "Good vs Evil" inthe real world too. Nonetheless, you've brought up an interesting point. I'll have to think on that one for a while.

I have heard of this before with people that were becoming stronger in their faith. A few friends explained trouble in the night staying asleep, and being awakened with a sense of fear. These friends were pretty convinced it was spiritual in nature, like a battle between their old selves with their new "born again" lives.

I'm not a Christian (not anymore) but they feel prayer helps them a lot find peace.

Maybe it is the stress of changing religions. I mean, you are giving up one belief system for another, that's a major change in lifestyle.
Maybe there is some guilt and some feelings of loyalty to puddle through. I imagine that completely giving up everything you've been taught since childhood for something that you've just decided to do, would cause some conflicting emotions and maybe a bad smell or two! wink2.gif JMO!
