Hello there, first of all, I would like to apologize for any miss spelling or grammar error that I may commit during the writting of my topic! grin2.gif

Another Siguanaba story, I know you guys probably heard a ton of these, the reason I'm posting this is because I read one in here about it, however no one really has valid information, only some retrieved because they heard it from friend's, or just the natives. I myself am a Salvadorian, was born in US. raised in Salvador, and came back. I was in El Salvador for 10 years, during those 10 years many events, or unexplained things happened to me. But one that caught my eye is the "Siguanaba" lore that most of my family, and people around our community know. We live in a small city, not long from there is a "canton" north of there is a huge river that runs down through there and past out house. We call it "la posa" regularly my family, more specificly my grandma/grandpa, and cousins would go there to wash clothes and take a bath. My grandma always told me to be wary of the northern part of the river, where "incidents" have happened before. My grandma is a religious person and always wears a cross, and made us wear one aswell. The story that always caught my eye was the one where she told me her parents had goats, and her mom had sent her with one of the goats to cross through the rocks in the river and onto the other side, where further east through the tall grass she would meet her uncle who would take it, and retrieve milk from it. Well, my grandma told me that she had been doing that for 2 years, but one time, she decided to go through the northern part of the river because the water was very calm there and she enjoyed throwing rocks into the water to make the splash sound. She told me of how she crossed the river, and she picked a rock to throw into the water, but before she could throw the rock, she heard a splash sound, as if someone was taking buckets of water and bathing. And suddenly the goat went wild, it started kicking, hitting itself, and it jumped into the water where it hit it's head and drowned. My grandma told me of how uneasy and shocked with fear she was, I will always know how she felt because something similar happened to me. It's like a frizzle or chill goes up or down your spine and you feel frozen, your legs begin to shake and you want to move, but your legs won't move. My grandma told me that she had an anxiety to jump into the water too and that she could hear a woman's whisper, no one was around, but she felt as if someone was behind her whispering into her ear. The thing odd thing about that in my opinion was that she told me that day her cross's string to keep it around her neck had snapped, so she left it at home that day. She said she was sure it was the siguanaba, and that not only was it her, but she encountered her 1 more time when she went to wash clothes. Salvadorian poor people and uneducated, and so my grandma's mom figured time by how much light was outside, one day she believed it was 6am, almost 7am the time in which they would go to wash clothes. So she sent my grandma to the river to do the laundry, although there was light outside, it wasn't the sun, but the moonlight shining. my grandma says she was sure it was around 3am or 4am. during her trip, right before the entered into the entrance of the river, there was a huge stone there, and there was a woman. She seemed naked, maybe had been bathing, her hair covering her face, and dipping the end part of her hair into the river, as if rinsing it. My grandma says she felt paralyzed and cold. Many salvadorians believe that in order to confuse and entity like la siguanaba, or el zipitio, is to grab your clothes and put them on backwards. That way you can walk away, but to them it seems like you're walking further. So she did that and when she got home she was all pale, and her mom never let her go outside alone anymore.

My own experiences:
Ever since I can remember we went to sleep at around 9pm, not just me, but everyone in the household, brushed their teeth and went to sleep at 9pm, and woke up at 6am for chores and do get the days duties done. There was the huge living room where we kept 6 plastic chairs to sit in when its day, each night we'd stack them up when we went to sleep and left them against the corner. I however at night would always hear rumbling outside in the living room, as if the chairs were unstacked and someone kept moving them around, in the morning however they were always stacked like we left them the day before. Our rooms didn't have doors, and were all connected to the living room so we could see it. I would try opening my eyes lightly as if glimpsing.. but nothing, nothing was moving or anything, yet when I closed them again, there was always that sound. Up till now I can't explain it, I'm a reasonable person, I try to explain what happens but I can't find answers, many might have thought I'm nuts.
Another thing that happened was, my uncle used to have this wife, josephina, who lived with her old dad who never liked our uncle. One day my uncle told her he couldn't stand her anymore and that he would throw her out of the house, so she grabbed what we call "calsio" or "calcio" I believed it's some type of powder, maybe poisonous, the point was it almost left him blind. So he was brought to our house, were we kept him in the hammock in the living room, our living room is also connected to our outdoor opened bathrooms/kitchen/sinks, made out of concrete, plaster and our kitchen out of mud, using "comales" or mud made ovens on which to make food, specially tortillas..
Out of nowhere one day, during the days up until around 7pm, this little creature appeared. I can't explain what he was, it appeared to me like a monkey. A monkey in el salvador? I don't know. But it was this hairy monkey like creature. With a giant tail thicker then our dogs, he had this wrinkled face, and it would hiss when it stared into our eyes with these huge eyes. I don't know what he was, but diff people in our family would see him, even me, I saw it, and I always felt uneasy, I can't explain it. He would sit outside, peeking into the house where my uncle was with this bandana around his eyes. We tried scaring it, but It wouldn't go away. We had 3 dogs, Dovermans, big black dogs, they could probably take down any thief who might try hitting out house. We didn't know what to do, but that monkey thing kept appearing and making us feel awkward. So we sent all 3 dogs after him, hoping they would kill it. 2 of our dogs died, and the other one was left whimpering, throwing blood from it's stomach. That rat/monkey thing though, lost an ear from it. We would see it and throw rocks at it, and we didn't know what to do, we were scared. So we went to the church, who sent a nun over to our house, she blessed the house with holy water, and she would stay there to see if anything happened. Then finally, that thing showed up again, and the nun said some words to it, and she threw salt at it, and it hissed and twisted in the ground, and it ran away whimpering and crying.. not animal crying, it sounded like a child or man crying, it gave me the biggest chill, I'll never forget it. The thing is, many people believed there used to be "Brujos" or people like a cult or mages who did dark pacts with the devil in order to obtain "gifts" used to exist, and some still do. Many have said stories of brujos shapeshifting from human to animals, and back, like the woman who would turn into a coyote to get food for her husband, and when the man found a coyote he killed it and gazed at it in shock as it turned into his wife. The point is, a couple months later, my uncle went to his ex's house to give her money and to apologize for leaving her all of a sudden, I saw her dad, the old man in the back, he too was missing his ear.. right now I don't know if it was just coincidence or.. something else, maybe I'll never know. I think salvador has weird and twisted events that happen, and wether we like to believe or not. I know I always told myself I didn't believe.. whenever something happened "oh it's just the wind" "oh, maybe just a rat" I'll probably never know for sure, but I'm happy I shared this with you guys, and the fact that its 11pm right now and Im feeling uneasy isn't helping heh, If you guys have any stories to share, go ahead I'll keep on checking this thread.

Yeah that was my thought, it's something that happened to me, so it's rather creepy, I don't really expect people to believe them, I myself wish I didn't believe it. At first you make excuses for it, like "oh, probably just coincidence" and then you just start telling yourself lies, until fear takes over you and you start believing.. Yeah my reasoning is, El salvador is a tough place, many people get killed from day to night, I've heard of a guy who got hit in the river with a machete until he died from too much blood loss. I just think my country has too much problems, and maybe from all that spirits linger around of the dead that haven't found rest, I don't necessarily believe in the lores they tell, but I do believe they're spirits, maybe not the same one each time, but one that has become very common with the natives. and thanks for the welcome heh grin2.gif I'm glad to share my stories

O I didn't know it was going to be THIS SCARY! I'm thinking about that little man/money and its freaking me out! SO SCARY.
So did your uncle regained his vision after he got back with his wife?

There's a lot of witchcraft going on in Peru too (where I'm from, born and raised baby!) and my grandma told me that there was always a lot of people trying to do witchcraft on my grandpa (because he was a very successful business man) but it never had any effect on him because he never believe on any kind of witchcraft. In short, my grandma told me that if you don't believe in it, it won' affect you at all.

This was very interesting indeed. I appreciate your story and I am pleased to find new things to research. You mentioned a few different things that I had not heard of before. original.gif
