QUOTE
"Littledean Hall, open to the public, is one of these ancient buildings, and it is reputed to be one of the most haunted houses in England, though this is stoutly denied by its current owner who is at pains to discourage the notion"

"Littledean Hall is reputedly England's oldest inhabited house. The house has Saxon and Celtic remains in the cellars dated to before 11th century, and is believed to have originated in 5th or 6th century"

1.Charles Pyrke had a servant called Black Boy. It is thought that the Black Boy still haunts the house causing poltergeist activity.

2.The blue bedroom has not been slept in for over forty years because of its ghosts.

3.The priest hole behind panelling near the bay window leads to a secret tunnel which in turn joined the Grange at nearbt Flaxley Abbey. The hidden gallery has a ghost monk.

4.Apparently a baby was murdered and the body was hidden behind a secret panel in the rose room.

5.Two officers were put to sword in the dining hall when the house became a Royalist garrison during the civil war

In the journal it says "The owner of littledown hall has no dought that the whole area has been a sacred site for centuries"

I was reading about LittleDean Hall only recently, Lottie, and in a Simon Marsden book! grin2.gif

I think with all the stuff that's been experienced there, it definitely has to be up in the Premier League of haunted houses. Oops, bringing footie into a topic, again. tongue.gif

The walled-up baby story is creepy, especially, and it does make you wonder, what dreadful secrets are still to be discovered hidden away in Britain's old houses.
Catt
it may be one of the most haunted but the most haunted place Chingle Hall, 2nd to borley rectory which burnt down, so Chingle is now the most haunted

Is there a league table of hauntings?
Lottie
Just wondering why you think that Chingle Hall is the most haunted house in the UK?
Catt
its not something i personally think about chingle hall, but if you read up on the place, it says that it is the most haunted, thats all. wink2.gif
