I was looking around and i came across this photograph of a public lynching from the 50s from America.
I understand at the time it was seen as normal behaviour, (not that i condone it), my question is this, Iwonder if the women smiling is still alive and so full of happiness?

The times we live in do seem to dictate a lot about whats acceptable behaviour! Back when they beheaded citizens or hanged them, there were vendors selling snacks and drinks to the crowds that gathered with their children! It was like the circus had come to town and everyone was in a mood to celebrate the days comming attractions and events! And there are still people who look forward to a good execution party! Though we may do it differently, have things really changed all that much?

When people are brought up to believe in something as horrible as people deserve to be killed because of their skin colour, then they are literally brainwashed to see it as nothing bad, just life. It takes them getting out of that situation to see what their previous attitude was for them to realize how heinous these things really were. I am so glad I was not raised in those days, I was taught by my mom to not see skin colour, to look at each person as an individual and then see if I like to be around them. I am not condoning what was done in the past, but explaining that when you are raised to believe such things and everyone around you has the same mentality, these things do not seem so horrible as they do to others who have no concept of racism to this degree. It really blows my mind that this was not really counted as a crime for so many people. I feel so sorry for them, but not as sad as I feel for the people who suffered through this bigotry in that horrific era.
