I believe that this is the same place on this thread. There is a link to some pictures.

i am often confused when people use the word 'advanced' in relating to civilzations.
what 'advanced'??
advanced than our present civilization/culture? no way?
advanced than the neandrethals? yes, definetley!
but the way in which some folks use the word 'advanced' is as if the civilization found is far advanced than the current civilization/culture!

a fort on an island in a river, mostly covered by ice (this was discussed in another thread as glorybee said)....in what way does it amount to a civilization??

bayanchur khan, who built the fortress at tuva lived from 747 to 759 AD. He was a Uyghur.

Uyghur history can be divided into four distinct phases: Pre-Imperial (300 BCE-630 CE), Imperial (630-840 CE), Idiqut (840-1209 CE), and Mongol (1209-1600 CE), with perhaps a fifth modern phase running from the death of the Silk Road in 1600 CE until the present.

How does the nomadic culture of the Uyghurs who started of in 300 BCE..be termed as an ancient or advanced civilization????

edited for typo!

I would consider it a society. Whether is was advanced or not, maybe they are judging the people who built this against other people of the time? If others were actually nomadic and living in tents or small wooden houses, I would understand the building of a fortress being more developed.

interesting find... but I don't think we'll be rewriting any history books over this... IMO

This is one of those stories we can excited about, but in going to the print, find not one single photograph. I suppose it is because there is no profit in just giving that gold-mine away for nothing. Just like the moon and space trips, photos are about as hard to get as a fourth set of teeth. So, we'll wait for the "History Channel" to produce some pictures for us, in what? two years, three? And even then, we'll be regaled with side stories and commercials galore, and the best pictures will be saved for the last three minutes, and we'll never get the richness we deserve. What I want to know, on this topic of pictures, is: are there any pictures of the solar system from the furthest wandering probes available to view? How about just pictures of the earth from the furthest stationed satelites? And I don't mean LandSat pics, but geo-stationary staelites that get pictures of the solar winds. I've seen glimpses of these in various sources, one shown on PBS, of the flapping trailing slip-stream around the earth. But the sources were never revealed or explained.

Sorry for the double post dontgetit.gif

Thanks for posting the pics though. Even though some call this advanced while others do not I am still impressed by its structure. Further evidence that we do not necessarily "know" all about our roots. Its like some experts tell us that less than 10,000 years ago we were crawling out of caves and learning to build fires.
BUt obviously ancients structures (such as this) with intentions of defense, etc. show that life was fairly close to the today.
Technologically we've come a long way. As time continuously changes humanity does not - we somehow retain our instincts.
