First some background to this picture.
I live on the island of Guernsey in the Channel Islands, a small island thirty miles off the coast of Normandy, France. This island was occupied by the Nazi's during WWII, the Channel Islands were only British Crown dependency to be occupied by German forces in that war. The island was made into a fortress with extensive bunker complexes, coastal defenses and huge guns taken from captured Russian ships that could hit anything in the Bay of St.Malo out to 32 miles. This was all part of Hitler's North Atlantic Defense system.
Here is an example of a German Bunker, one of hundreds that are all over this island. There are many different designs and this particular one is an observation and rangefinding tower for the big guns further inland.

Here is a photo that was posted on a local discussion forum of a stairway inside one of these bunkers on the north of the island. Is it real or fake? I'd like some opinions on this rather strange photo.

Why did someone feel the need to graffiti a big orange cock?
The soldier looks like one of those cardbord target practise things

LOL! I hadn't noticed that.
I thought it had a more mannequin like look to it (the soldier, not the genetalia graffiti).

definately a fake , theres too much detail in the pic ! You can do miracles with photoshop . If you look where the gun sticks out where the reflection of the stairway is , you can see the rifle sticks out past the " stairway reflection " , that would have been cut off when the pic was taken. Looks like someone forgot to check the little details . OOPS !!!

I don't think it does. If you look on the wall the lighter spot that looks like a continuation of the gun barrel in the reflection is apperent and is only in the place by coincidence.

not disagreeing but , if he was on the steps like the reflection shows , his gun would have been too large to hold that way , it would be hitting the wall , thats what i meant by the gun going past the stairwell reflection . If he was standing on the bottom step then ok , but he is standing on the third step . Plus in the reflection if you look at his feet they are on 2 different steps , and if you notice his legs arent bent and as if hes standing on one level .

It very well could be real but , certain little things about the pic just don't seem authentic .

It wouldn't matter if it was a spirit gun.

I'm going to have to agree with those that said fake. The lines are way too distinct, there are no shades of grey just black and white. It looks like something out of a coloring book. There's also no EXIF data in this photo.
I adjusted the levels to bring out the lines.

I was looking at the enhanced version of the photograph and what I seemed to see was what appeared to be a peg leg on the other leg. The one leg is there in its entirety but the other has or appears to have a peg at the end. Also next to the peg leg is what appears to be another peg with a wheel like caster on it, could that be?

Thanks, folks. They really didn't make it too hard for me, usually when people do something like this they'll use a picture further down than the first page of a google image search.

Hi,
Pleased to meet you!
You are the first person I've seen on here from Guernsey. I spent a lot of time as a teenager exploring the bunkers here. When I was at St. Sampsons school a few of us opened up a sealed bunker. It had tunnels connecting several together. We didn't find much of interest other than a belt buckle and old empty food ration tins.
Do you use the WhyGuernsey Forum? I am a regular on there with the same name I use here.

Ahhh I thought I recognized your screen name! im Vonsparks on there I think?
Yes, the only interesting thing Ive found in any bunker so far is a puddle! My mum found some soldiers uniforms when she was younger.
Have you ever been to the devils den? Or That tower thats in your first pic? Ive been in them at night time, Devils den is quite spooky but I have not seen nothing, and that tower at pleinmont is quite boring! hehe

I have never heard of Devil's Den. What/where is it?
The tower in that first picture is called L'Angle. Maybe it's boring from a spooky point of view but as a piece of architecture it is quite impressive. The view over the cliffs and out to sea is spectacular from the top floor. When I look out over the sea from there it makes me feel very small.

The Devils den is a tunnel/bunker built into the rock on the way to the fairy ring?
And yeah L'angle is a magnificent piece of architecture! I love the cliffs there, and the sea =D

I have been there.
My grandparents tell me that a man lived rough in those bunkers for many years, up until the late seventies. He kept goats there and used to drink their milk to supplement his diet and he even sold the excess milk to locals in the area.
